I remember that bass!!! I was GASing super hard for it when it was in the classifieds but didn't have the money. That refinish and mods are killer. The US Schecter stuff is absolutely amazing quality.

I think this thread shows one of Schecter's problems in moving beyond starter/beginner players and Teh \M/etal Dudez... 42 lines of Basses that are 95% similar in design, woods & electronics that seem to mainly call out to "Guitarists Who Are Covering On Bass In This Band", and if not which simply confuse the player looking for something that stands out!... in a good way. The basses that have caught my eyes are the Stargazers, the Diamond P/DC, and the 004 Ricky-esque line from a few years back.

The key to choosing the best from Schecter import line is always the electronics package. There are some good ones to be had.

The new Blackjack series with the new Basslines elecs looks intriguing. Nice overall features there for my tastes.

I agree. Brands like Schecter, ESP, Ibanez, etc focus heavily on appealing to the metal guys but have a few models that are "non metal" and kick some serious butt. I used my DeLeo sig in metal bands for years. I am a traditional style bass kind of guy at heart but am also a metal bassist. Leo Fender did it right and I like to stay along the P style for basses.

I mean look at what Steve Harris uses and that dude is one of the greatest metal bassist ever.

Oh its lovely...Ive gone back and attempted some things I could never really get a solid tone on before. The EMG's with the BQC control nailed em easily. After hearing each pickup myself though I do kinda wish I had purchased 2 of the 40 p5x's instead of putting the dcx in the bridge but I can revisit that idea later maybe. For now the thing screams if I want it to, thumps when I need it, and stays level through it all. All without a pedal.

(Although I did set up a MXR 10 band pedal for instant claypoolish tone)
