I'm not positive if this is correct, but I'm pretty sure that Samick was labeling their basses as Schecters for while and that's where most of the forgeries came from.

Exactly! Here's my usa schecter p/j from the '80s:

(one piece birdseye maple neck, one piece figured koa body, emg p/j active pickups, vol/vol/tone pots)

Great sounding bass but heavy as hell (12.5-13 pounds).

Schecters are fine for what they are - a low to mid priced mass produced Asian-made instrument. There are gazillions of them out there. They're don't have styling that's particularly original, but the sound is alright, and the quality is decent enough. The brand just strikes me as "meh.." The company strikes me as an Ibanez wannabe.

Schecters aren't the most popular by any means. But still fantastic instruments! I'll have mine until the day I die!

They're super durable (I'd know), sound great, look cool and the build quality is top notch IME. Super comfy necks too.

as for reliability, would you go for a Cort o or a Schecter? in the same price range of course, cort seems to have many $1000+ bass guitar.

Did you say low to mid priced? Cuz the cheapest Schecter guitar here is $300, so are Schecter overpriced here? Ibanez instruments are

IMO: under $400 = cheap, $400-$900 = mid priced.

As far as I know, Schecter guitars are made by Cort, so there is no difference between the two except for styling.

Where are you located? Ibanez basses in the US are FAR from overpriced...and yes, $300 is cheap.

On their old website they had a whole section on fake Schecters. I'm not saying that there are more faked Schecters than Fenders, but you really have to be careful buying an old US Schecter compared to other brands.

it's still a well regarded name, but nobody in their right mind would forge a diamond series. They're inexpensive and not all that popular, there's no money to be had on diamond series forgeries

I agree 100% that nobody would bother forging a diamond series.
