Schecter Model T review

Sign in to disble this ad
Here's the obligatory pic to start things off:

I got this bad boy almost a month ago and my band was in between rehearsals so it just got put through its paces last Saturday.
It was amazing- when we were done, our lead guitarist said he's never heard me play better or more clearly. He said my sound was excellent.
I knew I was hearing myself better but I wasnt sure if it was just or if anyone else noticed-good to know it wasnt just me!
EDIT- forgot to add- as soon as I took it out of the gigbag, everyone really liked the appearance. We do classic rock covers so it even fits the look!

The Duncan Bassline pickups are great- I had plenty of punch to carry me through. I ran it with the P pickup up full and I would blend the J in and out depending on what I thought the particular song needed.

On the physical side, the bass weighs exactly 9 pounds. Its 1 1/2" wide at the nut which makes it my narrowest bass. Most of my 4's are 1 5/8.

The fit and finish were excellent-the pickguard and control plate align perfectly and the frets were nicely done.
The bridge and tuners are nothing to get excited about but they function properly and dont feel flimsy at all.

The best thing I can say is that the bass arrived with the lowest action I've ever seen on a bass that was shipped to me. Whoever had their hands on this bass prior to shipping definitely knew what they were doing!

The ONLY flaw I could find is that there is a depression mark in the wood under the paint near the E side of he bridge. You cant see it when you're looking straight at the bass. You can only see it if you tilt the bass and the light will reflect unevenly. You can also feel it if you run your fingers over it but its not in the way at all when I play. It looks like something was pressed hard onto the body before it was painted.

Overall- Im REALLY glad I found the excellent deal on Amazon and pulled the trigger sight-unseen.

This bass is a definite keeper and at $362 shipped, it was an absolute steal!

So now, less than three years later, the bass costs $300 more??

My Schecter C4XXX is a wonderful bass, and I've been looking for info on the Model T series...thanks for the review; it sounds like your bass is a real winner! The Model T is very tempting, but I admit I prefer them a bit lighter.

Nice review. I've got the black one with the maple fingerboard. I've been playing it exclusively now for about a year and love it.

I don't understand what the one poster was saying about $300 more three years later. I suspect he saw your join date of 2008 and thought that was when you posted this up. He thinks you bought it for $362 in 2008 and now they costs $600. Just a guess.

Could be.

So where did you pick up the black n maple one? Did you find it in brick & mortar store or were you like me and blindly ordered one on-line?

I've been meaning to pick one up for a while now. I played one in a local store years ago but just haven't gotten around to it. I'd love to get one that was sunburst with a maple board if they make them like that, if not then black/maple. I see them on ebay all the time.

My theory is he was all jacked up on tryptophan when he posted, and now he's sleeping it off.

That's a really cool bass--never seen this model before.
I could totally see rocking some Stone Temple Pilots on it, but I would need some even nicer shoes than I already have.
It would be great for Motown and Memphis stuff I bet.
Hell, Glen Campbell and Johnny Cash and Buck Owens would probably sound great on that Schecter.

Thanks for the review, and for giving me GAS.

Enjoy the bass. I had a black one a few years ago. I had a few minor issues with it like some grounding hum (went away when I touched the strings) and the glossy neck (I prefer Satin or something more natural - Gloss feels too sticky). Minor issues that could have been taken care of, but then I bought my Yamaha BB3000MA.

Me too- Schecter calls it butterscotch but IMHO, I think Peavey's butterscotch is closer to the original Fender color. This is definitely more yellow-but I still think it looks great with the black pickguard.

As far as doing the old Memphis, Motown old country- I'm not sure about copping that exact vibe. The pickups are the Duncan Basslines "Hot" series and not their "Vintage" ones. I've never compared the pickups side-by-side though, so you could be right.

They don't make a sunburst with a maple fretboard. They do make a sunburst with a rosewood board. It's new for 2010. Old now. I've been thinking about buying the sunburst and putting the maple board neck from my black Model T on it. I assume it would fit.

Hey I'm looking to get this bass in the sunburst to but when I look at websites they all show two different types of grover tuners and trying to find out which ones. The vintage grovers or the non vintage.
