Took this same approach with my blue 4 string Extreme posted on the first page of this thread.

Replaced the preamp with a Delano Sonar with a push/pull volume pot to go from active/passive. Added a dual battery setup to run the pre at 18v. Poor-mans aluminum foil shielding the electronics cavity. Q-Parts abalone knobs (volume knob is a regular size for fast intuitive control and the others use mini knobs).

Dunlop strap locks with Planet Waves blue suede strap.

Lastely had the fret heights professionally calibrated with a PLEK setup and then fret dressed.

$400 standard price bass bought at a discount from GC with $450 of upgrades added. I have considered replacing the stock Schecter pickups with genuine EMG HZ's but I'm pretty happy with the Schecters so they have been spared.

I know I'm a little late with this:

The P5 fits perfect in that. The tuner for the G string needs to be detuned slightly, but it's such a good case I bought three! P5, Model T, and another non-Scheckie.

Why does the G need to be de-tuned?

Just bought a new-in-box Hellraiser Extreme 4 for $500! Couldn't afford it, but couldn't let it slip away either. Hopefully, it will ship quickly, 'cuz I'm GASing badly. I've never played one, but I love my Stiletto Extreme 4 & 5 to the point that the Fenders only catch dust anymore. Any input on this bass would be most welcome, especially in regard to weight and balance. All I know at this point is that it's beautiful, and I paid about half of average retail for it. Gonna name her Mary, since she's my first virgin, and she'd better be immaculate!!

It seemed every time I put on a new set, the G tuner would end up positioned parallel to the headstock and actually extend slightly past it and bump the edge of the case and detune itself anyway. I never could string it so the tuner would be in the right position to not have to detune it, and I tried a couple of times.

The FB page shows the $299 price, but the MF page is showing $549 (probably 'cause it'd be a pain to alter the MF page for a 24 hr sale). Screaming deal there, in any case.

Did your bass come with the gold hardware, or did you just install gold strings? Looks nice by the way. I bought an elite 4 with all gold hardware, and I love it.

it came with the standard black hardware, I replaced it with the gold and splurged on the strings. highly recommend optima golds, got the slightly lighter gauge which balances the warmer tone the softer gold puts out with a nice trebly edge. that said the bass is a pawn shop bargain at $100, tuners were $14, bridge was about the same price and the knobs were $10. the strings cost almost as much as I paid for the bass lmao! $76 for them so all in all I paid way less than I really should have had my luck been not so great. for a custom 4 it kicks ass

Thank you! it suits the bass very much and especially the strings I can't say enough about, bought a set 20+ years ago when they were maxima, had them on my 4001 and really enjoyed the tone, but locally they stopped distribution, happily nowadays one can find them for a reasonable price online, the money spent on 3-4 sets go into one set of optima golds, but they do last the time one would go through said sets, especially if you play 2 hours a day regularly like I do, time will tell how long they hold up, but for the price I payed I am more than satisfied with the feel and tone they provide!
