Hey all!! I'm not a schecter owner...YET. =) I've been wanting to get one and just came across an SGR C-4 by Schecter new for $160. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of these? Not finding a whole lot online about them. Thanks for any help!!

Good looking, like most Schecters are.

It sounds great too. I love that I can leave my eq flat and get a great sound out of it. It's the only bass I can do that with.

Damien elite 5

Any opinion on the new Damien Elite 5, with the MMHZ pups?
What's the versatility of the bass?
any comparisons to the.. L-2500 Tribute G&L?

How in the world did I miss this club!!! I'll be posting a pic of my Stiletto Studio-5 tonight. Mine's a little older, with the pretty Bubinga top, not the Flamed Maple like the new ones. Speaking of which, anyone know someone trying to get rid of a Stiletto Studio-6????

1980 Schecter

I've spent the better part of a week reading this 3-part thread and haven't found much in the way of early Schecter basses, and none as old as mine. Not knowing much at all about the company I've learned quite a bit here. They've built some really nice & <ahem> insteresting instruments indeed over the years. ;-)

This bass was given to me by our band's management in the fall of 1980. It was reportedly a special build by Schecter. They made me get rid of my SDCurlee I was using at the time (the manager hated the way it looked in a rock band!) and use this. I had no contact with Schecter myself and know nothing about it other than it was love at first play and was my main bass for several years. The birdseye maple neck is really sweet & it has great ringing tones, especially with RotoSwing bass strings. It's a 9 volt active with push/pull volume pot.

Thinking of 'er for the 1st time in a long time (due to this thread) I pulled 'er out and I swear she smiled at feeling the open air after so many years. Not really fair she's not played anymore and if basses were to have souls no doubt she'd be sad & jealous of the others that get all my attention nowadays. But the memories of great times we had together are still in me so I can't let her go ... but I degress...

Not great photos but hope you enjoy:

There were/are technically two 'versions' of Schecter as a builder...in the late 70's/early 80's (I think), the SoCal Custom Shop did a lot of one-off builds as well as in-house production; the later (ie - current) company still has the CS but most of the line is built offshore. We see a few of the old CS instruments here now and then, but not every day and I think you're right in yours being the oldest here.

You should be playing that one more...too nice an instrument to be kept in the dark! Wish you a number?

That was the era of the gloss black instruments with the red binding stripes, right? I remember demoing some of those back in the early 80's...

Not sure exactly...most of what I've seen from then were/are the CS builds.

In her honor yes, I'll take a number please kind sir.

And yes I do agree. More play time for sure now that we've reacquainted.
