Has anyone had any experience with the Schecter Riot Neck Thru basses?
Just wondering what they're like to play, neck, weight, electronics. I know some of the new import neck thrus get pretty chunky up around the 15th fret.
GC doesn't carry them in stock and neither do any of the other local music stores.
Thank

| | | | I have a 2009 neck through Riot 4, and it was really good out of the box. Like many, I swapped out the HZ pickups for EMG actives pickups (EMG JXCS in my case), and that moved it to great.
I think they aren't making them anymore, but if you can score one, they're great. |

Thanks,

Swapping out the electronics gives you an even better bass, but at some more cost of course, so it's up to you to pick what bang for what buck you want, and when and how. It seems, for example, you can really pick from a wide menu of tone options depending on which way you go from the base.
IMHO, not a bad choice to have. |

| | | | Oh, one little addition -
I don't personally think the pickups or preamp need to be replaced - they sounded quite nice to me, and at its price point, I got a great bass, and obviously felt it was a good bang for the buck. It's strongest assets are the body and tuners - great neck, balance, playability, easily set up action, etc.
So on that foundation, upgrading the electronics does give more bang, but of course, at more buck.
The nice thing about that is that at any of those two or three price points you have a good value, you just get to choose whether, how, or when to switch from one good value to the other, and IMHO that's a nice choice to have. For example, if upgrading the electronics, judging from all the youtube videos of those doing the same with Schecters, it seems you've got a lot of ways you can take it from its base.
Guess that didn't end up so little.
Oh well,
Happy hunting! |

It weighs more than my Ibanez 4 string but less than my P-bass copy. I'm guessing it's around 7-8 pounds. Beautiful thing, it is. Beautiful.
