Schecter Stargazer 4 - Any experience?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am really a "Fender or Ernie Ball" guy, but lately I have been eyeing the Schecter Stargazer every time I go to Local Guitar Stores. Looks like a ric and feels fast and smooth... jazzy-ish. I just have no experience with these basses. I have tried the Stiletto before and enjoyed the fast neck as well, but never thought about purchasing a Schecter. Does anyone out there have some experience or input/advice on the Stargazer? Should I get it? Price seems reasonable as well. The Black is pretty cool looking as well.

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Joey

Generic...not a very good sounding bass in my opinion. For that kind of money I'd get a Stilletto Custom 4, or Diamond P over the Stargazer.

If you like how it looks and how it plays, why not buy it? Leo Fender won't rise from the grave to strangle you if you buy something he didn't design.

I had one when it was still the 004, black with maple fretboard.
The neck felt great, it was fast and slim. The body was pretty uncomfortable to play for a full set. The tone was very generic, I think the electronics had a lot to do with that.

That's about it. There is way better out there.

Yep. That said though, the body shape can be worked around, and I'm pretty sure given how solid the construction is on the bass, a swap of the pre-amp (very brittle and harsh) and the pickups to something with a lot more warmth and depth of tone would make this bass into a sure-fire winner.
It would be up to you if you want to drop another $300 or more into it though.

As a fan of old-school weird looking basses I've been curious about those too. Let us know what you think...

I played one at GC and didnt like the feel. Big, heavy and blocky feeling compared to my Rick, Jazz and Carvins.

I ended up buying one and I love it. I also ended up getting another one as a gift. So I'm selling one. I love them! No regrets. Its not heavy at all. Very light, fast and versatile. I have one in red and black. I didn't even open the black one except to take pictures. I paid 700++ for it. I'm selling the black one for 575 plus will throw in a new gig bag and a new padded Planet Waves bass guitar strap. I have it listed on the classified section of this Forum. Its a fantastic bass. New Bass needs a home. Can't return unfortunately, so willing to take a huge loss. Send me a PM if interested. Again, Brand new Stargazer 4 string bass, plus gig bag plus strap for 575-shipped. Thanks all.

post at FS: Brand New Schecter Stargazer 4, Black, Never Used w/Gig Bag! - REDUCED!
