Serial Number Query: FENDER AMERICAN DELUXE PRECISION BASS 5 (year 2000)
I don't know if this is the right forum but I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on Fenders' serial numbers for the year 2000, specifically for the FENDER AMERICAN DELUXE PRECISION BASS 5 (year 2000)?
When I've been looking on the internet DZ in front of numbers is supposed to represent the deluxe model with made in USA underneath, and yet I've seen some models described as American Deluxe but only with a Z prefix and no made in USA.
Any information would be great.
I'll try uploading some pics later as an example.
I have an American Deluxe Precision Jazz from the same year with the "Z" only. When I wrote Fender to get the specifics on my serial number they said: "Early American Deluxe instruments from this era didn't always have the DZ indicator, some came out of the factory with just the Z indicator."
I guess it's Fenders quirky way of doing things. I would suppose with only Z instead of DZ it's going to be really early 2000?
I think that's it. Mine was made really early on in the production.
Fender American Deluxe 5 (different eras)
Yeah I would go with 2000 as the year.
I have 3 American Deluxe Jazz 5's and they all are 1999 models DN letter prefix
I'm guessing the N = 90's
Z = 2000's
That 5 string P bass is rare, or at least Low production for sure, with its maple board, alder body, 4 bolt neck and 9 volt circuitry.
IMHO the American Deluxe Basses from 1995-1998 ( Suhr pickup and preamp design ) and 1999-2002 are by far the BEST of the series.. I feel that from 2002 on until present day models you really have to find a good one amongst the pack. For example the model goes on to:
1. 4 plus 1 tuning keys
2. 18 volt circuit
3. 5 bolt neck and sculpted heel.
4. blocks and binding
5. 21 frets (after 2010-ish)
6. Active/Passive switching
I kinda collect these models and I have only saw about 6 Precision 5 basses compared to dozens of Jazz 5 basses from the same era !!
Still overall though the American Deluxe series basses offer incredible bang for the buck
I'm actually in the process of buying one as a backup to a RBV as believe the jazz humbucker pickup is a Bill Lawrence? I'm paying £825 for it.
