Service from Kala on my U-Bass
A week or so ago I posted a note asking if anyone else had had a problem with the pickup on their U-Bass. I called MF, who are usually very good about these things, and they told me to contact Kala, whose web site specifically says that warranty claims should be handled by the retailer. I was afraid I was going to be stuck in warranty purgatory, but then I got a message from Ryan at Kala, asking if MF had been any help, and offering to handle the claim directly.
After a bit of discussion, I asked Ryan if he could just send me a replacement pickup, as it looked like a drop-in/plug-in replacement job. He said sure, he'd be happy to send one out if I wanted to try that. The next day he said that it turned out they didn't have any of those pickups left, but if I sent the bass in, Kala would pay for shipping both way, and they'd install the new pickup and preamp system- all under the warranty.
My U-bass is currently in the hands of UPS (fingers crossed) but hopefully I'll have an upgraded and improved U-bass in a week or so. I'll report back then.
