If something like that happened to me I would be in an insufferable jerk until I got my bass completely refunded, luckily I do my own setups.

Learn to do your own setups man! It's real easy and It'll end up being a better job than a tech can do because it'll be setup to your specific needs.

I dropped my first acoustic off at a shop to get the action set once. 3 weeks later and about 10 calls to the place I finally just went in and demanded my guitar back. The only good part of the experience is that they left a $30 pack of strings in the pocket of the case. So basically I just got $30 in strings for letting my guitar sit in storage for 3 weeks. I didn't pay them a penny because of the wasted time.

I would be super pissed about having a shop do damage to my bass and keep it there for 3 months. I would demand $500 at least, or a new bass of equal value.

Please help me understand why he couldn't:

1) Buy a new TR wheel
2) Remove neck
3) Remove old wheel
4) Install new wheel
5) Replace neck

But then again, if the OP is taking the bass in to get the the action adjusted, everything I just wrote is beyond his ability, so never mind.

But please still explain why wood must be removed to get to the TR wheel. Thanks!

I bought my SR5 (USED) about a year ago, and it still had the plastic on the PG. I had to use solvent and elbow grease to get the residue off that guard. I eventually just bought a new pearl guard.

they don't make that wheel for the ATK 300 anymore apparently, and Ibanez said it was impossible to get one according to the shop.

You need to take it somewhere else. Are you located where the choices of places to take it are severely limited? I also support a local Mom&Pop but if I experienced what you have, I would take it somewhere else in the future.

I refuse to believe that it would be impossible to find a suitable replacement, much like the link I posted on page 3. Those are found on other basses, metric or standard, and can be found anywhere.

Good luck! The ATK is the only Ibby I GAS for.

If the Truss rod is threaded. Then there is no reason that you/ they could not find some sort of nut that would fit onto the the rod that would make it operable.

No, it may not be the same. But, the issue here is function over form. Even soldering on a hex nut, to allow you to adjust the rod with a wrench would be enough. You may have to remove the neck to do it. But at least it makes for a functional TR and potentially a sellable instrument.

Depending on your level of frustration and dissatisfaction. I would probably say take the cash, hand them the bass and walk away.

If nothing else, it will probably sit in the shop for a LONG time. And every time the shop owner or tech looks at it, they will have the memory of completely screwing up an instrument and losing a customer due to complete incompetence.
