For that Gretsch Electromatic Junior Jet bass, I highly recommend LaBella shortscale flatwounds. They will tighten up the tension and get rid of that floppiness. Also, the tone is much more musical to me, and the whole thing just delivers the old-school thump.

+1.
When I saw this video on YouTube for FrettedAmericana, I ended up with serious Newport B4B gas.

gig bag for short scale instruments

Anyone have a suggestion for gig bags? Specifically for short scale instruments. The regular sized bags do work, but there's tons of extra floppy room by the headstock... just wondering if there's a "short" gig bag. Guitar bags seem just a little too short. All thoughts welcome....

This is mine:

Replaced the bridge (Shaller 3d-4) and the electronics (a varitone circuit). Pickups are next, probably DiMarzio DP126 set.

I had a dream a few months back that my cat was a kick-a$$ jazz drummer and we would jam all day long!

It's now my favourite bass, and has made me a short scale convert. No more long scales for me, I think.

You can hear it on my MySpace.
Holy...

That five-year-old picture of a bass stopped me in my tracks. Wow.

Oh man, just wow.
