I should let you know that there are a few used Hellcat VI's (The older model) for sale on Guitar Center's site for about $350.

That's great to know. Now I might try to scrape up the cash sooner and pick up one of those. Do any of you guys use a VI as your main player?

I'm in the beginning stages of building a Bass VI (Warmoth BassVI neck and Warmoth Jazz body - http://demina.org/projects-3/bass-six/) and wondered if someone can tell me what the pickup spacing is on the Fender and how far the bridge pickup is from the bridge.

Thanks!

Looks like a pretty big gap between the neck and the pocket. How are you going to remedy that?

I'm still itching for a VI. The new Pawn Shop looks pretty good to me, though I have no need for a tremolo.

^^yeah, I was wondering about the neck/body fit as well, seeing as Warmoth specifically says their bass6 necks ONLY fit their bass6 bodies.

Apropos of nothing, can anyone recommend a good place to get a discount on a new Hellcat VI?

I really...really...REALLY want the new pawnshop VI. I'm actually kind of mad they made a pawnshop SuperSonic, although it might make my original Squier worth more.

Well, folks, I pulled the trigger on the used Hellcat that was rattling around on the Guitar Center website. It should be arriving on Friday. from what the somewhat addled person at the Paramus NJ store could make out, it has been tuned BEADGB, which means I'll need to restring it for its proper role as a Bass VI, I guess.

I know, I know, it's not the super-awesome 2012 model but it was also $350 less, and I plan on treating it like an experimental chassis anyway, suitable for rewiring, refinishing, whatever. First step will be refinishing it because black on black is so boring, and I hate a tobacco burst finish. I have never figured out why people want their guitars to look like their grandmother's furniture.

Your grandmother has tobacco burst furniture? That's cool.

Yes, and her false teeth have a brass bridge.

Not to go off-topic completely, but I have an elaborate set of aesthetic standards about guitar finishes mostly having to do with my belief that the more artificial the look the better; I think guitars/basses should look like space-age rock machines and not like antique picture frames.

What is the string spacing for most 30" 6-strings, especially the Schecter Ultra VI?
What kind of aftermarket whammy bridges fit them well?
Do Kahlers work well?

That's one of the details I haven't figured out for sure yet, but will try to make some thin filler pieces.

Welp, here it is. My circa-whenever Hellcat VI. $350 from GC, in pretty good shape. It had been strung as a baritone so I got some LaBella HCVI strings from bassstringsonline.com (Free plug! Get your Talkbass discount!) and it is now back in its proper tuning. I don't know if anyone's handing out numbers for this club, but I want one!

Habilis, I don't think there is a number giver-outer here, as far as I can tell.

Nice score on that Hellcat, though!
