Should a 71 Jazz bass have a neck stamp

I am thinking about buying a 1971 Jazz bass that is all original. But it does not have a neck stamp on it. Is this normal for this year? I have heard that the 70's Jazz basses did not have them.

Some do, some don't. Check the pot codes.

Alot of them were either not stamped at all, or it has faded away.

The pots and underside of pickups will get you there.
