The vast majority of Fender color schemes involve red, black, burst, and some shade of white.

As a result, after 30 years as a Fender player, I am now sick of red and black, can tolerate burst because of the vintage vibe, and the shades of white Fender sometimes comes up with are not cool (like those "blizzard pearls" that always just look gray to my eyes).

My only significant complaint about Fender is how limited the colors usually are, and how determined they are to shove those colors down our throats year after year. If you want something unique, better get one while it's hot, luck upon one somewhere down the road, or hook up with a good refinisher.

NO!!!

They offer what they offer, and that's just perfect and if you don't like it go somewhere else.

Oh, and stop bashing this superior company (insert angelical choirs) and Saint Leo Fender, alright?

What colour do you want? eh? eh? Metallic pink with green racing stripes? Well, how about they have an introductory offer: they will build a P-bass in such colour if there are enough orders in a given period of time. Say, 125 orders within the next 3 hours. Would that satisfy you? Put your money where your mouth is, or shut up.

Bunch of whiners!

DISCLAIMER: no, of course I'm not being serious. I just couldn't help myself after reading the thread about EBMM not making 5-string basses with a 19mm string spacing at the bridge.
I thought I'd clarify this in case you didn't read that thread and think I'm just a nutter.

If Fender Japan can offer a broader range of colors, why can't Fender US? Because Asians are more likely to go for different colors? Why should they? Especially the non-transparant or non-burst ones are easy to apply, so it wouldn't even mean an extra effort, would it?

But I'm happy with my sunburst/tort/rosewood Jazzes

LOL. Good one. I got it before the disclaimer.

But on that note, I would do a special order and pay a premium...if only it were possible. And I don't even need anything radical. I like the transparent sunset orange they offer once in a blue moon. I'm hardly alone there.

They put sparkle finishes on bottom level price-point Squier six-strings, but not on a decent Standard P or J Bass that a pro or semi-pro might want.

Weird.

I'm sure Fender's business model and the realities of cost versus return on investment is to blame. Meanwhile, I'll just keep funding Marty Bell's retirement fund to get what I want.

Yes, and offer matching headstocks at an upcharge.

I too am getting sick of the common limitations; black, white, burst, and sometimes red.

This is the fender corporation we're talking about here - value, variety, and customer satisfaction have never been their strong points. Yeah, I'll probably get bashed for that.

Ebony transparent.. Mmmmmm

Yeah definitely more colours. Optional hardware colours, covers, Q/FMTs, body binding and matching headstock. Options for neck binding and fretboard inlays too. Offering blackpearl etc as standard options too.
A tick box system would be nice, like Warmoth. A pizza delivery system haha e.g. Ill have a jazz bass body, 70s pickup placement, vintage pups, chrome hardware, transparent purple on a FMT with cream binding and a pearl pguard. Pearl bound rosewood fboard with pearl block inlays and a matching heastock. Oh and hold the peppers
Like that, with a little price counter. Like a restricted version of the Custom Shop, but thats just an idea for a layout

I believe their biz model is working. Give the general public standard color choices and if you want something special either pay to have it modded privately or go Custom Shop. Sorta like sports cars. 99% of us would buy a Mustang from what's on the lot or easily available. A small percentage of buyers will splurge on a Shelby.

More colors would be cool. I'd like to see more natural finishes though like the Marcus Miller and older P-Basses. That would be sweet. Sea Foam would be nice as well. Cherry burst and Tobacco sunburst would be a sweet addition aswell.

For current Mustangs, Ford offers 3 shades of red, two blues, a white, a grey, a yellow, and black. For Am Standards, Fender offers 3ts, 2 shades of grey (blizzard pearl and CFM), 1 red, 1 white, and black. While Ford offers only 3 more color options, the options they do offer give a much larger variety if you think about it. And it's usually the 'strange' colors that I see showcased by dealers.

I love my CFM but I don't see where there's enough appeal for BP to keep it around for the FAS line. There also isn't any shade of blue availble in the FAS, while they do have LPB in the Standard (MIM) line. While I like the current red they have (Candy Cola) I'm so sick of seeing black, white, and 3ts.

Personally, I'd pay an extra $100 for a broader selection of color if I were buying another new FAS, if it was offered as an option...
