Should I get a Fleabass as my first bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all, I'm hoping this is my first thread about this... I tried typing and submitting one, but it never appeared.

Anyway, yes, I'm looking to start playing the bass sometime soon and my eye has been caught by the blue and white Fleabass Street Bass(?). Basically, I was wondering whether or not it's a good bass?

It's perfectly within my optimistic budget and you guys really seem to know what you're talking about, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would go with a Squier Vintage Modified Precision, or a Sterling Ray34.

They aren't bad basses, but for the (I believe) $500 they're asking for to purchase one you'd be better off getting something else and putting the remaining money towards a better amp.

Much better stuff for the money. Those basses sold so little they are already discontinued.

You can get a made in the USA Music Man SUB used for less than 500 and it's a great bass.

I would go for a classic vibe J or the black vintage modified jaguar with blocks if it were me. Best bang for the buck out there right now.

They've been discontinued.

Flea pretends to not understand why they weren't a huge success at their over-priced-for-their-dollar-value level.

I do not expect Flea Basses to become any form of collector's item.

That's the thing, it's pretty cheap if I get it online here:

FLEA BASS STREET BASS BLUE - Thomann UK Cyberstore

And I can't find many basses that are much cheaper?

Oh really? I didn't know that.

So what would you guys suggest I get? I'll change the title, if I can.

I'm looking at the £250-£300 mark.

I agree with the others. Play some precision or jazz basses and see what fits for you. The flea bass seems to be more of a novelty item than anything else.

I have never played one, but I think they look dope! Plus, some of the videos I've seen were pretty impressive. I'd get one.

I have one of these - Yamaha bass guitar - solid maple, new condition

It's amazing for the money imo - really easy to play, light, and sounds great. Mine was £85 s/h.

Save the cash and buy a used Ibanez for half the retail of the Flea

Ibanez ATK and Ray34 would both be similar basses to the Flea bass. There is a Squier Jaguar bass that has a humbucker near the bridge like those other two I mentioned, it might be worth trying it out.

For $129 you could find a used squire. Flea basses are garbage. I'm embarrased for him for promoting that made in China pos.

If you like the look and the sound (lots of Youtube clips of these out there), go for it.
