Should I get a semi-acoustic bass if I already have an acoustic-electric?

I have two basses: a Squier Affinity Jazz and an Ibanez AEB10E acoustic electric bass. My squier broke and costs too much to fix it. I'm thinking of replacing it.

I found this bass online and I absolutely LOVE it! The tone is great, it looks great, and Jack Casady is one of my favorite musicians and bassists. I love everything about the bass.

But seeing as I already have an acoustic-electric bass that I like, should I even bother getting a semi-acoustic?

I dont think youd buy this one to play unplugged. Cassidys are awesome basses.

I have a 70's epiphone 5120, and I love it for practicing unplugged when I am in my room on my own. The sound doesn't really carry when played next to any acoustic guitar, but it has a great sound plugged in. One thing new to bass for me when I bought a semi-hollow: Feeeeeedback!

yeah, semi-acoustic is sort of a misnomer for a lot of hollowbody and semi-hollowbody instruments. They are not meant for unamplified playing, although if you strum on one unplugged it will sound louder than a solidbody instrument. Plugged in, it will usually sound different than a solidbody because the shape of the notes will be different, in terms of attack and decay and resonance and sustain. And of course they are lighter, so there is less fatigue when wearing one... and they are pretty!!

My philosophy is: there's no need to look for a reason to get a new bass!

If you feel like doing it and have the money, indulge yourself! You'll be happy (for a while, at least...)

I dont think you have to worry about the Jack Cassidy sounding like your acoustic bass. If it sounds great , plays great and the price is right go for it. Like others have said, you will be happy for a while... LOL
