I'm in the market for another bass and Squier Vintage Modified J Bass popped up for $175. Is this a deal I should go for or should I look around more? I've heard great things about the VM Squier line but I just want to make sure this is a sound decision. |

$100 is about all you should be paying for a Squier.
I picked up a Squier from the pawn shop the other day for $97 after tax.

| | | | Longtime lurker, hi.
OP: do you live in the Inland Empire? I know the guy I sold the VM Jazz to was trying to sell it for $175 on Craigslist these past few days. If you do, I was the original owner of that bass a year or so ago. There were some weird issues with the basses fit and finish, however it played fine. I could tell you everything you wanted to know about it before it was sold.
The VM series isn't the same as the Affinity series btw. Getting one for $100 would be a steal.

| | | Man, every time I go on this site I'm reminded of how bad a shopper I am.
I got my Squier VM fretless for $299. 'Course, I went to Guitar Center and bought a new one instead of buying used, so I guess it's my fault. Still, good bass for the money and I'm using it as my mod guinea pig. If you can get one for a good price (and get a chance to test play one,) go for it; you can always hot-rod it or just sell it if it's not a long-term keeper.

The way i see used squiers worth is this scale
75$ for affinity models.
150$ for VM models
225$ for CV models
and of course there are other models as well, like standard and artist series. You cant just say every squier is worth 100$ because some are and some are worth alot more , over twice that used. |

I would've payed $175, actually, if that was the asking price at the time...I say go for it if you like how it plays

I gave him a stand and the bass was tuned by a local luthier, so it's a really good deal, even for $175... Although I'm sure he'd take $160 for it

I cant bring myself to even pay 75$ for an affinity, at least not the ones i played. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
