Should I jump on this deal?

I'm in the market for another bass and Squier Vintage Modified J Bass popped up for $175. Is this a deal I should go for or should I look around more? I've heard great things about the VM Squier line but I just want to make sure this is a sound decision.

Try it out if possible. If it feels good, buy it.

you should be able to resell it for very close to that if it isnt something that you choose to hang onto ... if at all possible, try to play before you purchase if you haven't had one in your hands ... they seem to be good values, but can be quite heavy ... but if it feels very nice to you, and sounds like what you are after, it is a sound buy, especially if there is no tax or shipping ...

I bought a new Squire for $199 (J bass ) and if I were to sell it I would get ( or ask ) only $ 125 tops . The market seems to be flooded with squires. Look around and you might find a better one for the same price.

This.

$100 is about all you should be paying for a Squier.

I picked up a Squier from the pawn shop the other day for $97 after tax.

Longtime lurker, hi.

OP: do you live in the Inland Empire? I know the guy I sold the VM Jazz to was trying to sell it for $175 on Craigslist these past few days. If you do, I was the original owner of that bass a year or so ago. There were some weird issues with the basses fit and finish, however it played fine. I could tell you everything you wanted to know about it before it was sold.

The VM series isn't the same as the Affinity series btw. Getting one for $100 would be a steal.

Man, every time I go on this site I'm reminded of how bad a shopper I am.

I got my Squier VM fretless for $299. 'Course, I went to Guitar Center and bought a new one instead of buying used, so I guess it's my fault. Still, good bass for the money and I'm using it as my mod guinea pig. If you can get one for a good price (and get a chance to test play one,) go for it; you can always hot-rod it or just sell it if it's not a long-term keeper.

To be fair squiers have different levels. A cv is 350$, offering someone 100$ is an insult for one.

The way i see used squiers worth is this scale
75$ for affinity models.
150$ for VM models
225$ for CV models

and of course there are other models as well, like standard and artist series. You cant just say every squier is worth 100$ because some are and some are worth alot more , over twice that used.

You know, I wasn't aware of that. I've never looked at new prices, though.

I snagged my VM Fretless in brand new condition from a guy of Craigslist, and I feel like it was an amazing deal...not sure if the one I got is special or something, but it's super light and plays amazing with really low action

I would've payed $175, actually, if that was the asking price at the time...I say go for it if you like how it plays

Yes it is the bass I had. I sold it the guy for $160, and it was a deal then. I gave him a stand and the bass was tuned by a local luthier, so it's a really good deal, even for $175... Although I'm sure he'd take $160 for it

Yeah there is a wide range but the ones you usually see are the affinitys over priced all the time. I cant bring myself to even pay 75$ for an affinity, at least not the ones i played.
