Should I just cut the c@#$ and get a Sadowsky?

Hi,

I've been on the search for my sound. Now, I've chopped and changed pickups, preamps, bought new basses, etc.

I got a Fender 50's precision (Mexican made) last year and it sounded great. However, it still didn't quite please me.

Now, I think I wanna give in to a long urge of mine - get a Sadowsky.

Am I wrong in thinking that its one of the best spunds out there?

I will be playing a lot of music, a variety of styles and I happen to see that people from a wide range of ranges play Sadowsky.

One example I can give is of Will Lee. The guy does a variety of gigs and I like the way he fits in with every band he plays.

I know he has a signature bass out, but that's kinda out of my budget. So, I'm thinking I'll go in for a simple 5 string Maple/Ash Metro.

What do you think? Is this a good idea?

If you want a Sadowksy, get a Sadowsky. As a cheaper first option, have you tried running your P bass through a Sadowsky outboard DI?

No, I have not tried that. Do you think that'll get me close to the Sadowsky sound?

It won't get you the exact Sadowsky sound, but it will get you closer than you think. And it's a much cheaper alternative to buying a Sadowsky.

the thing about a sedowsky is it not only that it sounds like it sounds, but it feels and plays like a dream. just something to consider

I have some reservations about the fanned fret system. Never played it and although I have heard things like its not hard to get used to, its not something I'd consider purchasing right now. Sorry!

I've played a 50's P, and I've also played a Sad 5, all I can say is it doesn't matter what outboard whatever you plug into, they both are very different in sound, feel, and playability.

Yeah... do that...

Only a Sadowsky is like a Sadowsky

If only I could, I would too

Cheers,

For this kind of investment, only you can make the decision.

When you're buying at this price break point ie Fender CS, Sadowskly, Lakland USA, Dingwall, AC, etc, the most important opinion is your own.

I will warn you, once you spend some time on this level of instrument, it kind of ruins you to play anything else regularly.

After playing way too many basses, I found that I'm a Dingwall guy. Bought my first in February. In spite of spending many, many hours on it, it still gives me chicken skin when I play it. Just ordered a second one last week... a Super P5 to add to my current Super J5.

My point here is to play everything you can. You'll know when you find the builder/manufacturer that speaks to your soul. When you do, you won't be asking if you should buy one, you will be spending all your time trying to parlay the tattered remains of your checkbook in to a second one !

Sadowsky has a huge following. The only thing negative I have ever heard is that some people are not huge fans of the tone.

You stated that you love that tone. Seems like you have your answer. Time to put the checkbook in ICU. Good luck with your decision.

What's a spund?

Get the bass you want and don't worry about justifying it.

I believe there's a Will Lee metro model. Also, the single coils are going to sound different than the humbuckers.

I tried one once at the NE GTG. They play really well, great set up and the
pre-amp is killer IMHO. You can get any sound you want all from the bass Pre-amp.

Essentially, you have a P bass and you're asking about a J bass. Whether it's a Fender, Sadowsky or anything else, that's a big difference right there. Maybe if you can describe what doesn't please you about your P bass, you can get better opinions on what to do.

Yes, get a Sadowsky. If you can afford one, get one. Life is too short.

You might want to look at the Mike Lull basses as well. They might get you to the same place and save you some cash.
