Should i keep a bass i dont play?

I have a killer sting ray 4 I haven't touched in a year. I usually play my sr5 or my carvin sb5000. I really like the bass, but I hardly play it. Should I keep a nice bass I hardly ever play?

You can do whatever you want.
If its something sentimental to you, then keep it.

I just got rid of two four strings I never played. I'm a 5 string guy and never took my 4s out of the house.

^^^^^^ I agree with these guys. If you really don't have a use for it, sell it, trade it, give it away. Regret it later. my .02

If I don't play it, it eventually gets sold... Unfortunately, there are a couple instruments I wish I had not sold... But for clearly most of them, it was the correct thing to do. If you've got 3 basses, some on these boards would concur that's not excessive and would suggest keeping it.

The comment about sentimental reasons resonated with me... If this is a 4 banger that you could replace if/when you want to play 4 bangers again, then you could probably sell it and not miss it... If it does have sentimental reasons and you can afford to keep it, hang on to it.

If you love it, then keep it, even if it isn't getting play time right now. If you don't love it, then give it to me, I promise to give it a good home, lots of play time, gentle care. I'd even give it back when you realized how much you missed it...

Personally I have always had a debilitating fear of sellers regret. I've never sold a thing. I'd much rather regret keeping gear than letting it go.

I have one of those too, but I'm not going to sell it. I'll lose money on it if I did plus it's a dicontinued model I may regret later.

I would say don't sell it ....... not yet anyway.

If you don't have a backup, string the Sting Ray BEAD. Lots of threads in Hardware, Setup & Repair [BG] that give details.

Unhappy Sold a bass that I dearly loved but was way too heavy.

It had been sitting for months and I was Jonesing for something lighter. So was my back. I ended up taking a bath on it, and just ordered an Icon 5. Now it's like waiting on puppies.

But I know what I'm getting for Father's Day.

I was once told that there are two things you'll buy, use then put away but should never sell: guns or guitars.

It could be replaced down the road except for the color, orange firemist. Im not going to make a decision anytime soon.

Yeah, I've sold some really nice gear in the past - that I wish I still had... a few examples:

Gibson RD Artist bass
'71 tobacco sunburst Les Paul Standard
'69 ES-335
'70 Marshall 100w Super Lead
early '70s Twin Reverb

There's more, but I think I've made my point... I didn't sell any of that stuff because I needed money - I sold it because I wasn't playing it any more... I probably won't make that mistake again...

It is really your call. If it just sits around and you don't plan on really using it much then sell it off and make some money off it. Otherwise if you ever think you will use it then keep it. Could make for at least a good backup bass.

Ultimately, every question boils down to money.

Is the bass appreciating in market value? Hang onto it.

The regular MIA Fenders I bought new on long sale a couple of years ago keep going up, so I'll hang onto them.

Is the market flat on it? Sell it if you can actually find a buyer with money. I'd sell at least a dozen of mine if anyone locally had any dough.

It's just gear, don't overthink it or get emotional about it. When in doubt, follow the money.

+1
If your not using it and you can use the money for something else, get rid of it.
