Should I sell my pbass hardcase?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got a used am std pbass 09 and it came w a pretty nifty hardcase. Thing is, I prolly be using my regular gigbag since the hardcase is too bulky to carry around.

Im not a touring musician so my bass doesnt fly across continents at all. Im thinking of selling it to fund new pickups for my bass.

Is there any reason I should keep it? If Im selling it, how much is it worth?

There's always the "just in case" factor. I would keep it.

Keep the case. I am one of those that will not buy a bass that does not come with the original hard case and there are quite a few of us out there.

yes, keep the case. you just never know, and besides, it won't net you any big bucks.

Always sell off any extra gear that you don't need right now. Otherwise you end up storing it all around the house and it looks cluttered as well as being a tripping hazard. And be sure to get rid of the stuff at a give-away price, even if it is just like new. Then someday down the road when you find out that you actually need the stuff you sold, you then have the fun of searching music stores, online sellers and ebay for the same type of item. Which you will have to buy again at an inflated retail price, plus shipping. That's what I do.

Everybody else has given good reasons, listen to them. I can almost guarantee that if you get rid of it, you will live to regret it.

I wouldn't sell it. Even if you don't tour, you can store your bass in it while at home and have the peace of mind that she will be safe if some knuckle head knocks her over. You won't be able to buy decent pickups with the money you get from it anyway...

When I go to rehearsals I use a gig bag...but for actual gigs I use the hard shell. It's easier to pack in the van. Plus it lessens the risk of getting stomped on or knocked over. If you ever decide to sell it. The case is always a plus.

Agreed, unless it's discounted greatly.

I bought a bass that came with a case. I used it a couple times but it was way more than I needed so I went back to my nice gigbag. The case sat around for about a year, untouched except for having to wipe the dust off periodically. I finally got tired of looking at it so I sold it on CL. I haven't missed it at all.

If I'm selling a bass without a case I just set the price accordingly, just as I'd set it accordingly if it had a case. It's obviously not going to be the same price and it's never been an issue for me.

I prefer to use the gear I have rather than store it for a rainy day but it sounds like I'm in the minority here.

I'm in the minority: i never use a gig bag. I prefer the protection offered by a hsc.

gig bags suck and should only be used if you have no other choice. i have hard cases for all but 1 of my basses and that one is a flying V and i just can't find a hsc yet. i might try to make one.

I wouldn't go that far. Many gigbags today are just as protective as a HSC. Check out Mono cases or Reunion blues stuff.

Thanks for the opinons, but if I ever decide to sell it what would be a reasonable price anyone?

Your bass will be damaged in the back of a van - keep the hardcase.

I'm weird like that too - OHSC fan!

Unless you're getting some big bucks for it - it's probably not worth selling...

Depends entirely on what kind of case it is. Post a photo.

No, they're not... those are great gigbags, but still not as protective as a properly fitting harshell case...

+1 i agree totally.. i have made this mistake too many times and know that the unexpected should be expected. even if you are not a touring player the hard case is way better than a gig bag. even if it clutters up your house you wont have to worry about transporting your gear..
