Should I Spend the Money?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello,

I am having a custom bass made for me, and along the way there have been some...complications.

The bass was supposed to be finished in May, and the finish date was pushed back to August. Now another issue arose, and the luthier (For anyone who wants to know, J.S. Kuhns) had to start from scratch. This means the finish date will be pushed back even further (another 3-4 months)

I am currently borrowing a bass from a school, but I will have to give it back fairly soon.

So my question is, should I spend the money and get a Squier to continue to play on (I am currently in a band) or just wait?

Why not buy another bass. It is a good idea to have a back-up anyway. If you have the money do it.

Welcome to the club. But that's part of getting a custom instrument made. I've been waiting on mine for about 18 months now. It's the pain you endure for perfection. Get an economical 2nd bass for while you are waiting.

+1 to what everyone else said, it's always handy to have a backup.

I have several other basses, so waiting on my custom (Chris Stambaugh 6 - absolutely stunning and worth the wait) wasn't an issue. If I were in your position though, I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a Squier.

A lot of people (myself included) dig the Vintage Modified stuff. I also really like the Deluxe Jazz Active V and even the Affinity Jazz V. They sound pretty good and play well with modest price tags. They also just introduced a Vintage Modified 5 that I'd like to give a try. (I'm a 5-string guy in case the avatar/nickname doesn't give it away. lol). For the price tags on these guys, you can't really go wrong having one as a backup.

5sg.
