Should I trade my bass?

I have a 7 String Conklin Grove Tools. Im in a punk band and its really just too much but it sounds so good. I got offered a Aria Pro 2 SB waiting on more info about it. Does it sound like a decent trade?

Have you played the Aria? If not you have the cart before the horse.

I haven't played it yet. I've been trying to sell it. Not very many people would like a 7 string because they claim it is not a bass. lol.

+1 to what krptos said.

a little more info on what you mean by "too much" would help.

also, if it fits your personal style, what tones you need for the song and to a different degree bad related factors... what's wrong with the conklin?

Keep the Conklin. Hardly anyone plays these..and they are decent basses. Be different.

I find it kind of ironic that, for a genre that began with such a "F*** everyone and everything!!!!!" attitude, there's such pressure to conform by playing a Precision. I think it's appropriately punk to apply that same attitude to punk itself and play your Conklin if it works that well for you.

Plus, if you like it that much I predict you'll someday regret getting rid of it. But, if you REALLY want the Aria and are confident that it will work for you in this band, then I'd consider buying it outright if you can afford it. But honestly, I'd hate to see you regret getting rid of the Conklin if you really like it. If you haven't already experienced that mistake first hand, there are literally tens of thousands of fellow TB'ers who know that feeling well that you can learn from!

Take the three strings off that you don't use. That would be punk!

That being said, the aria SB integra is a very aggressive sounding bass! I have one and will likely pick up another at some point.

Bill Dickens plays are Conklin 7 stringer. If you can get past all the fast stuff the record label makes him play, you'll find he's a brilliant bassist.

Also...I would think the 7 strings would be perfect for a 3 piece band. You can play guitar parts on the thing to fill in space.

Keep the 7. Buy a cheap bass of your choice for the punk band. I'd go used personally, maybe an old MIA Peavey. While I think it would be punk as hell to rock the 7 string, it's a big chunk of lumber and not what I want on my neck for the gymnastics that accompany the typical punk show.

That Conklin is the perfect bass for punk.

Learn to play chords on it, and make some DIFFERENT sounding punk.

more info on the Aria. It looks like Pro 2 SB Elite 2. The aria has a solid brass nut and bridge the fancy cat eye inlays. Through body neck (I think it's 5pcs.) gold hardware, it's pearl white. Same shape as cliff burton if that does anything for you, The output is real hot but the pickups are passive. It's from '84 and it's literally near mint. It has 1 ding a few and small scratches by the back strap button.

LOVE those Aria Pro's...awesome sounding and playing basses...I'd do it, because I'd never have any need for a 7...that's no dis on anyone...I just love 4 strings and the only limiting factor, is me

I got carried away and bought a five and six string only to sell them both. Now have four, four string basses. All those other strings just confused me.

Don't sell/trade your Conklin bass. Go on craigslist and find a cheap p bass or decent copy for $150-$200 then when you're done in that band you can sell the used one!
