I've had a Stingray 5 for about 8 years now. It's an awesome bass, and like many, have uttered the immortal "I'll never get rid of this bass" line numerous times.
I'm getting kind of bored with it, and I'm thinking more along the lines of a jazz (DJ5, Beck V) or possibly a 55-02.
I've been trolling the threads for a while, and GAS is getting to me.
Should I keep the Ray and be happy, or should I venture into new waters?
THIS IS NOT A TRADE REQUEST THREAD. I'll do that in the proper forums. I'm just looking for opinions, and possible 'trader's remorse' stories.

Start thinking about what you want, and save up for it.
I have a couple basses I don't think I could ever sell, even if I don't play them all the time. They come back around.
Sure you probably need a break from you Ray, but rest assured you'll wake up one day and all you'll want to do is play that old Ray. |

Be aware that the Stingray tone and feel is unique. You're not going to find it elsewhere, so only trade if you know what you're getting and you find a good deal.

try putting some stainless steals or flats on your Ray to change it up some. |

Why not keep the one you love and buy the one you're gassin' for, then play them both for a while to see whether they're both keepers.
Love lasts... GAS DISSIPATES...

I recently bought a 55-02D and in a matter of days I put my sterling in classifieds.. Good Luck.!
But if I were you, I think I will keep the stingray.. Sentimental value doesn't compare to anything.. |

I've even been so bored and sure that I wouldn't miss a bass by selling it, left it in its case for a month or so, and than felt so glad when I wanted to play it again and it was there to take out.

If you need to ask the internet what to do then you have no problem making decisions.
You don't need that bass. Seriously. Dump it. |

Nothing wrong with creating meaningful discussion about an important decision.
Maybe he just needs reminding of why Stingrays are awesome?
or why they aren't....for that matter?

Not that it's a bad thing either - my Ray was a hair too bright for my tastes, and it was hard to tame. Now my Dingwall Z3 hits the spot perfectly - I'd never go back.

I've owned my Ray 5 since 1999, I sometimes get bored with the sound and switch over to one of my other basses, but I always end up back over to the Stingray. Nothing else gives me the perfect blend of fingerstyle and slap tone and is as comfortable to play.
You'll most likely eventually get bored with the sound of the new bass as well. |
