SHOW: Any colorful PG’s on black basses out there?

Sign in to disble this ad

I'm ordering a custom PG today. This one is grayish white pearl, and not very attractive. I don't want white or black pearl. I’m stuck between:

1) Acrylic White because most black basses have white/parch or mint.
2) Green or Purple I like the green; wife likes purple.
3) 3 ply Tort because tort looks good on anything (brown, not red)

I could really use your help deciding because w/o seeing it first, I’m stuck.

All pics and comments welcome!!!

snyderz, Those are really nice looking basses, especially with the chrome covers. I've been thinking about some covers for my P & J

I no longer have the bass, or the pickguard for that matter, but thought this looked pretty sharp. The design is called "West Coast Art" from Greasy Groove (www.greasygroove.com) ...

CPplaysBASS, Nice PG. I bet it's even nicer in person.

My favorite with a black bass is a black PG, followed closely by what you already have. I like tort on natural and white instruments.

Try black abalone. Looks great on black and you don't see it that often. WDMusic makes one.

Abalone!
Or tort for a classic look (that's what I chose for my black MIM J - ripped from my Squier, but I think I'll move to abalone). Purple is very nice, of course if you don't live in a catholic country, where purple is FORBIDDEN to musicians and aother artists.
Don't be afraid of weird looks: my white Squier J, after many moddings, now has a pearl ocean blue pg, and it looks pretty cool and unique.

I have a tort guard on my Squier Jag. It's nice. Deste, explain this purple thing please.

A lot of good ideas so far:

- JakeAndAirwaves, love that Jag, my next bass will be a SS jaguar.
- danomite64, really nice J, I saw that PG material on the web somewhere.
- Hopkins, current one doesn't look good in person; it's not white although the pic looks like it.
- EagleMoon the blk abalone was $336 a sheet; I wonder how much a PG is?
- deste, I agree that tort is the bomb. Not different, but classy. Whish I could see your squier.
- socknroll1, not a fan of black or white pearl, but out of the two, I’d do white on black.
- ebonalley, PG looks really good with gold h/w; beautiful bass.

There's a blue pearloid pickguard on my VM Jaguar. Also did a violet pearloid, wasn't as big a fan.

JasonKain, I asked the guy that's going to make it for a blue sample, but he was out. Thanks for the pic. Violet is closed to purple which is what my peep's around me like, wish you had a pic.

I still keep it around. Threw it against my Thunderbird for contrast. I get all my pickguard supplies from Warmoth, and cut them myself. Benefit of having a Skill saw and a Dremel in the family. Their violet was a little too pink for my taste.
