Show me your basses with a tremolo bridge

Sign in to disble this ad
I have recently ordered a Kahler tremolo bridge for my streamer. I figured, hey it's my main prog rock bass so why not go there. I'd love to see some pics of everyone else's whamalicious basses while I wait to get mine set up. Any tips or warnings or good stories about having one of these would cool too.

i have a bass with one...no pics, though, sorry. it's pretty airtight and stays in tune very well. i have no desire to ever own another one, though.

WHAT?!!!
You own a bass with a with a tremolo bridge and still have the nerve to moan about me liking 5 strings better than 4? Sheesh!

I would love to someday have a 6-string bass with a Floyd Rose though... (all you non-guitar players need to understand just how ultimately cool a Floyd is and also what a HUGE pain in the butt they are to deal with)

Thanks found it. It didn't turn up on my first search though.

bongo, i only bust your balls because of your silly "all real basses have 5 or more strings" mantra. besides, i rarely use my whammy bass anymore...too heavy for my bum shoulder.

it is fun, though. i could do a pretty good imitation of a fretless with it. and there's something very satisfying about doing dive bombs with a lot of distortion, then banging the open E string while it lays there flapping.

And for that I am eternally grateful. Their guitar bridges never stay in tune, and are a pain to set up.
Where can you get a Kahler these days? How well do they hold up? Might be the next mutation on my frankenbass!

Pain to set up, but I've never had too many problems with them staying in tune once the strings have stretched a little. I've known some of the lesser versions having problems because the knife edge dulls and/or the posts are too soft and deform to more of an oval shape. One of my guitars was made in 1985 and it never has had a problem with staying in tune or burrs in the saddle.

Here's my Hamer Blitz with Kahler. The bass behind it is a neck through 80's Arbor medium scale that I found on ebay; I have a tremolo for it, I just have to find time to restore it.

The Hamer is a great bass:
