I'm sure they're out there - I recall at least one with a Darkstar.

One other mod I'm considering is sanding the back of the neck to reduce the stickiness of the gloss finish. I'm just reluctant to do so because I love the bass and fear screwing it up! |

An early version (or prototype?) of the Les Paul Signature Bass.
It gave me the idea to replace the Electar pickup, which I thought was kinda bland/lame in comparison to the mighty pickups on my Les Paul Recording Bass and Triumph.
I cut out the shape of the pickguard to match the shape of the Lo-Z Les Paul bass pickup.
And I replaced the knobs with silver cap tophats.
Plus I put a chrome hand rest over the bridge. I did not use real screws. It cut them off and put them on the hand rest with super glue. The hand rest is mounted with double sided foam tape. So I can always opt to remove it with leaving screw holes
I still have to replace the tuners by Gotoh Res-o-lites to cure the neck dive. |

Here's a recording that features my modified JCS.
It's the last song on our album Kharma Baby.
I used the middle setting of the tone selector. The treble rolled of just a bit.
Plus I used my Ampeg V4B (1972 I think) and an Eden XLT210D cab.
Three signals went into the soundboard:
- a DI signal (Avalon U5)
- a microphone signal (can't remember type nor brand)
- the external amp out on the back of the amp. Which is officially meant for a slave amp. But it sounded surprisingly good. Miss You - Superfloor
Hope you dig it |

took off the lame pickguard and basically went with an all black theme.

| | | | Hi guys,
I modded my jack after not liking the high end on my bass, and I always thought it sounded a bit underpowered. Once upon a time there was a website called Dudepit where I saw Basvarken's bass and was inspired. So I started a search for a Triumph bass pickup, and found a set after a while.
Mods:
1. Triumph bass pickup
2. Refinished in sunburst
3. Short Ear schaller tuners
4. Relocated the end strap pin further up the body so that the bass would hang at a 45 degree angle.
5. I used a 2.5K volume pot and I still have not put one tone pot.
6. I don't know what value pot my tech used or the capacitor either.
Can Basvarken tell me what pot values and tone cap. he used?
7. I had pickguardian make me a transparent nitro tort pickguard with 5 ply border.
8. I put a supertone hipshot bridge on it. I think it makes the bass a bit more bright sounding and a little bit clearer, as far as the sustain goes, I think that the original 3 point is fatter sounding, but this bass has a lot of sustain and fatness on it's own anyway, I could sacrifice some for clarity. Also I can put the E string further back than I could with the 3 point.
I have way too much money into this bass than I could ever get if I sell it, so I will never sell it. I think that the Triumph bass pickup sounds awesome. I can get a J/P/Mudbucker sound out of the bass with the 3 position tap.
Can anybody tell me how the Triumph bass pickup is made?
My tech said it had 3 coils in it, but I am not sure.
I would like to thank Basvarken for inspiring my pickup mod. THANKS!
Regards,

I put a set of Labella tapewounds on this bass. Talk about PHAT TONE! Oh, and that little Epiphone E on the pickguard? Mine just fell off. |

Regards, | Whoa! That is cool!!
Finding the right value pots wasn't easy. Until I decided to contact CTS about the 2.5 K pots that this pickup configuration needed. In the end they just sent me the right pots.
The capacitor is 4,7 uF bi-polar.
The Gibson Lo-z pickups are stacked humbuckers. Two coils.
But with 3 coil taps. There's an impressive 8 wires coming out of the pickup. With the rotary switch you can choose which coil tap you use. This works the same as the tone selector switch on a Triumph or Les Paul Bass. Rather than use an impedance transformer like the original JCS does, the coiltaps define the impedance.
Your JCS is the first that I have seen that has followed my idea. I feel flattered.

The bass sounds brutal in this recording. Fresh roundwounds. Ampeg V4B with the volume up just enough to give it a sweet drive. Taken from the Ext Amp out (=slave) She Got Me "Definition of Madmen" - YouTube
