I think it was about 1993 or 1994 when the Mexican Jazz basses had that one-piece pickguard and Strat knobs. I kept those knobs, but went Master Volume, series/parallel switch, and master tone with the controls. I've also had forty-eleven different pickups in this bass, finally settling on a double-jazz pickup of unknown origin (parts box) and the rear pickup is a Japanese Fender. The jack was also in that last hole, but I moved it using a Strat jackplate.
I added that one little extra piece of fretboard and one extra fret when we were going to play some cover tune (can't remember the song) but I ran outa frets to play the intro.
I've had a couple of different necks on it, this one (I think) is the Mighty-Mite jazz neck. |

Necks are a dream. Stable and do not budge. I have played them in 40 degree weather and 90 degree weather.
An absolute blast play !

| | | Here's my '06 I played a lot of basses before I found this one, even swore I'd never buy a MIM because all of the ones I played had a twist in the neck, but this one is straight and have to say, it sounds and feels great.
Even has the nifty little 60th Anniversary badge on the back of the headstock;

Reason I ask is because I might be going away to college soon and I want a bass that's going to be versatile but I also want to make sure it's gonna be solid and can survive a few bumps

| How'd you get that for $115? Most pawn shops I've been in would have that marked at $900 or so.

This thing plays and sounds great. Have no desire to upgrade to a MIA. The only other upgrade I plan on is a Tonestyler pot.
