Show your Japanese basses !

I really have a fondness for alot of those Japanese basses made back in the day. I`m not talking so much about Fender MIJs, or run-of-the-mill Ibanezes. I`m talking about the kinda kooky ones or the clones. Anyone else share my interest in that chapter of bass design ? Let`s see `em !

Very cool. I love lookin @ the uniqueness in design - good or bad - in the basses imported during that time. Those are some nice basses - what`s the story on that Fender ?

I don't think I've ever seen one of those before. That's got to be rare.

They were made in the late 80's through to the early 90's. There were PBass and Tele bass versions, fretted and fretless, Lace sensor pickup and a piezo under the bridge.. They sounded like.. well.. a PBass to be honest, not as different as you would think.

Somewhat, though they don't get huge money, they are ok, super shorty scale (30 from memory), very weak pickups, it was filthy when I got it, cleaned it up and sold it, it didn't really serve any purpose aside from being 'cool'! They were reissued in the late 90's

I can only find these shots of my Tune 8-string (which I no longer own, unfortunately):

Wish I could find a normal pic from the front!

Gotta post this one...always looking for the excuse..

Here is my Avalon. Don't ask who manufatured this monstrous meeting of chrome, plywood and louisville slugger. Any investigation you may endeavour to take will get you nowhere. However, I believe it could be an early ancestor to the much reviled Mothman...

My 1967 TeleStar T2B, semi acoustic teardrop bass. Made in Japan by Kawai, imported to North America under the TeleStar brandname.

While this bass looks pretty modern, it does have a certain quintessential Japanese quirkyness to it. I say it passes muster for this thread.
