Here's my new baby

Valenti VTJ5 although I like to refer to it as a VTPJ5.

The P pickup can be traditional or reverse.

do any of you struggle to get the two different pickups to blend together well? any volume imbalance between the two? i always wanted a PJ but upon further research heard about this issue. if for instance Fender got it right then why don't they always keep a standard PJ model around? maybe it's so people have to purchase a P and a J

It's important that the pickups on a PJ setup are meant to work together or you're going to be dissapointed with the way they blend, so throwing any J pickup to mix with the P isn't going to work. I love the Sadowsky PJ set on my bass, there are other matching sets available (Fralin, Aguilar has a new set).

Why is it that we have Js, Ps and PJs? Different strokes for different folks.

P vs. PJ:Some guys like the simplicity of a single pickup and doesn't want/need the additional tones that a J pickup on the bridge gives (that's cool with me). Others say that the extra wiring/magnetic pull from the J pickup messes with th P tone (I disagree with this theory).

JJ vs. PJ: A PJ with both pickups full on doesn't sound like a J. My PJ is my only electric bass since I sold my J. I sold it because I don't slap much anymore, but if there was a tone I couldn't get from my PJ that I got with my J (Sadowsky ash/maple with single coil pickups) was that amazing MM slap tone. For everything else, the PJ gives me a little extra something (that weight each note carries on the low mids due to the P pickup was the reason I kept the PJ and sold the J).

Here's my Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass with PJ pickups.

Never tend to use the jazzpickup that much though, I feel like I get more of a "growl" from using the P-pickup by itself. I do roll up the J-pickup about 80% occasionally though.

Oh my sweet lord - that's one absolutely gorgeous looking bass guitar. Up there with the Aerodyne. Now you've gone and given me a bad gas attack...

I agree entirely - how do we petition for the terms:
  • PJ
  • P/J
  • J/P

to be permitted in TB Search?

Anthony - I dig the tracks. Super-pro production, and the band is nice and tight. I also like the singer's take on Eight Days - I admire that he doesn't go for Macca's phrasing and just does his own thing.

And BTW - the bass sounds fantastic. One of these days I'll get my hands on one and try it out.
Thanks for the kind words. Appreciate it.

There a bunch of used ones on Guitar Center's Used Gear section on the website for under $1k. Try there....that's where I got mine.

Soong is in Australia...a purchase of a used bass from GC isn't too feasible.
