Mine is an '84. I freaking LOVE it! Bought it 12 years ago online from a gospel music store in Atlanta. A tone monster, weighs 13 1/2 lbs. She's the one!

13.5lbs?! I've got power amps that are lighter. You must have a shoulder of granite to play that thing.

I had a 1984.
It was also super heavy and had a really wide neck.
I sold it last year.

Mine was like the black one in the ad, but a 'gold elite II' and I had the flight case like AQUANOVA, but man was that sucker heavy. Great tone, but heavy.

But... I'm not sure I would call it a "tone monster", and I think it got as much use as it did more for its feel than for its sound. The string tension & string spacing on that bass was perfect for slapping&popping, or anything where you really had to dig in. It really lent itself to aggressive playing.

Lots of twang and sparkle up top, but not nearly as much deep low bass or midrange punch as I like to hear from my basses. A friend who had another '85 told me he replaced the stock white Fender pickups with Ken Smith pickups and that addressed both of my sonic complaints, but I never got around to upgrading mine.

I do play very aggressively. Mine sounds deep, full, very rich, and plays like a dream. But then again, pretty much all of my basses sound that way through my rig - GK 1001 RB-II, SWR Workinman's Tower (8x10). It's not very middy, but I prefer less mids. There is just something about that bass. If I end up homeless, I will still own it. I want more! Like I said, she's the one!

Jam on, brothers!
