Question Sienna burst '75 Mustang Bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a two-tone 1975 Mustang bass with what appears to be a sienna burst front and natural ash back with both finishes divided with a black, painted 1/4" line. The original owner told me it was a factory finish, but I've never seen an S-burst on a Mustang, let alone two-tone. Recently a prominent vintage dealer black-lighted the finish, and he believed it was original. About a year ago I called another big vintage dealer who told me he had seen 2 or 3 sienna burst Mustangs in the last 40 years. I'm looking for help! Could any of you help clarify the finish on this bass? Initially, I figured the back was refinned because the burst finish looked so good, but the black-light makes me wonder if I have a one-of-a-kind? I would appreciate any thoughts or information.

No pics, no way to help you. I have seen sunburst Mustang basses before, though I've never heard or seen any Fender that had a different finish on the back of it. All the sunburst Mustang basses I have pics of were three-tone, no sienna.

I tried to post pics, but couldn't get them to load. Guess I need help! Any suggestions? Seen loads of Mustang bass sunbursts, but nothing like this!

For what it's worth, I have never seen that before and I worked in music stores in the 70s.
