silvertone revolver p bass

Sign in to disble this ad
From the title you can see i own a silvertone revolver p bass.

Anyways, the pickups are broken and are pass the point of repair.(to summarize i have been trying to fix them for 2 weeks with no success)

Now the rest of the bass is in good shape and it is a decent bass from what i have experienced for the 2 years i have owned it.
the bass is not perfect though i get fret buzz on the D and G strings despite all my efforts to setup up the bass. i have even taken it to my local guitar shop and have had it setup with no success. The only advice was to shim the nut, and even with 3 index card paper shims there still is a bit of fret buzz. It is much more bearable and almost not noticable with the amp turned up high.

Now Forum my question to you guys is should i just replace my pickups or purchase a used bass off of craig's list?

if i replace the pickups, what pickups should i get if i want a nice warm but fat and punchy p bass tone?

If i get a used bass, what option below would be best for a variety of music styles?
Or can you suggest me a bass to look for that can cover a variety of styles?

I would go with something a little better quality. If you want the same style tone as your silvertone but better quality,go with the squier,if you want more rock and roll punch and growl,go with the t bird.

I think the P would work best for most styles of music though.

thanks for the advice. i think i will go for a p bass because it seems to the best for a variety of styles and i like the tone of my silvertone i could only imagine that a better p bass would sound much better.

Do you think that a squire p bass with an extra jazz bass pickup would but useful or just a extra feature i would never use?

almost all my basses are pj's. i usually use the p by itself but i consider the pj a very useful mod when you want more of a jazz bass sound with the slightly scooped mids and extra treble.

rather than modify an existing fender or squier (as i did...little did i know in 1982 how 70's precisions would become collector's items), i'd either get a p body with the j rout or get a fender mim precision deluxe.
