Simple 4 string passive Hey guys, I don't know why this is so hard. Maybe it's because I'm up so late looking. I want a four string, passive, jazz bass. (p/j is acceptable) It needs to be $800 or less. Here's the hard part, apperantly. I hate basses with the jack on the front face, pointing straight out. The jack needs to be either on the bottom or at least poitioned like a stratocaster. Do you fella's have any guidance for where I can find one of these? Bonus points for sunburst finish. |
That's quite the challenge! I tried for a bit and found zip. Since finding such a bass would be difficult and provide you with very few options, I would take a different approach. Find a jazz bass you love, sound and feel, then rout a jack to the side. You shouldn't allow something so insignificant to limit your choices. Just my $0.02. Or, just get an angled cable :hiding: |
Here you go. I'm sure you may find it cheaper, but it wa the first link when I searched for aerodyne. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass/...ring-jazz-bass I think the Japanese version have the jack on the side. |
Or you could use a cable with a right angle input jack. |
Maybe the Aerodyne Jazz? |

I'm thinking about trying one myself. |
yamaha rbx series, passive p/j ? |
G&L L2000 and JB-2. |
G&L Tribute JB 2 You can buy this bass brand new for $600, and I see them online now "gently used" for $450. G&L is a very well made, underrated instrument... and it comes in 3 tone sunburst! http://www.glguitars.com/instruments..._new/index.asp |
Carvin B-4 |
Yamaha bb424x? It's P/J, passive, jack is on the heel of the body. Also the Washburn Taurus T-24. Both comfortably below your budget. |
Take a look at the basses here in the classified ads. There is bound to be something there for you. |
Why don't you route a jack for the side then you could put a switched jack in the top for a stereo output, or another tone pot, 2 band or you could just plug the hole. |
1) Buy a blank pickguard. 2) Route the new pickguard for pickups and pot holes. 3)Drill side jack. |
Warwick Streamer, new Rockbass series, with the twin passive soapbar MEC's. $500, jack on the bottom, narrow string spacing, and sounds like a Jazz on steriods... |
try and get your hands on a 1980s Yamaha BB1000S, it is the greatest underrated bass in the world, IMHO. Passive, Reverse P and J on the bridge, input on the side. You should be able to fid one in the $500/$750 range and they are neck through! I have one which I will not ever sell. |
Here you go - http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/msg/3385021057.html - get this and try it out, then if you don't like it, sell it to me (for the same price) :D You can't loose ! * 4 string * passive * jazz bass * jack on the side of the body * Super Ferrite pickups * uber cool P knobs * with case * made in the USA * way under $800 It looks to be all original so, by the knobs & bridge its a 1983 or 1984.The USA Peaveys have a great sound and, there is almost a cult following for the Super Ferrite pickups. I seriously would buy it if you didn't like it. |
