Simple question for Stingray 5 users

Hey all. Quick question for you Stingray 5ers.

Long story short, I owned a Stingray 5 back in 2005, sold it to a friend, and just bought it back. Love the feeling, love the easy playability, it's beautiful...I love this bass!

My question - Since I owned it the first time, I have had many different amp configurations. It was probably all Hartke back then, but now I'm on Ampeg cabs and Hartke LH1000 heads. My Jazz sounds amazing through my rig. I love my rig. The Stingray is just a taaaad muddy now. It has brand new DR's, and I set everything flat on it. I also have the Hartke LH1000 head totally flat as well. What are some settings you guys use on your Stingray 5 that have really worked out well for you? I don't want to change the head settings because it works perfect for all my Jazz basses. I should say, I know nothing is wrong with the bass. It's in brand new condition and was, and has been very very well taken care of.

Thanks!

My Stingrays sounded best through my Mesa/Boogie 400+/4-10 Diesel and Ampeg SVT/2-10 & 15 rigs.

Then again, so did all my other basses.......

Haha I had a chance to snag a 400+ real cheap at a local GC and I missed my chance! What settings did you use on the actual bass? Trebs mids bass

You said everything is EQ'd flat on the bass itself? Since you dont want to mess with your amp settings, there are 2 things I'd try on the bass itself:
1- cut the bass (but just a little)
2- boost the mids. Personally, I'd avoid boosting the highs if at all possible because you have a bass with the pickup close to the bridge and I think adding more highs would make the sound clanky and brittle.

You do have the single-pickup version, right?

Yup, single Pup version. I'll roll both the bass and treb off a bit with the mids boosted until I find a desirable tone. I'll try this out. Thanks!

Why would you not EQ the amp? Amp EQ is more important to the overall sound IMO

True, but the amp settings I have now are tone gold for my other basses (AVRI 62 Jazz, Am Standard Jazz, and Mexi Standard Jazz). I can't tell you how crystal clear my other basses are with the flat amp settings. I can't really be re-EQing the head when I switch basses. It's usually gotta be a quick switch, and I just don't have the time to EQ the head back and forth. I need all the basses ready to play with one head setting staying put. I need to be able to find a good setting on the Stingray 5 itself. I'll say it's not terrible. It still sounds great. I just need suggestions on some settings on the bass to maybe clean it up a bit. Another problem with adjusting the head when I switch is, with the wedding jobs, sometimes I'm not in reaching distance to my head.
