It's well documented.

Fender started making those on the fifth of Never, 1975.

Considering ESP wants 1500 for a new MIJ "vintage" PJ...with worn finish created by a machine, in a factory, this doesn't look like all that bad a deal...

...and of course there were no PJ's from Fender in '75, I believe the earliest that a PJ was offered, stock, was mid-80's...

Well at that price it also needs a fret job, not to mention I am pretty sure that guard is unoriginal , then the fact the guy knows nothing about his bass who knows if the P pickups are original or electronics.

The price is fair , maybe to somone looking for exactly that , I was amused by his BS story on the J pickup not if the price was fair.

I still like the look of it

My point exactly: it's a pretty cool MIA bass in it's own right, never mind collectability. Needing a fret job would be reason to tak him down a bit, last I checked that adds about 300 to "git 'er done".

Judging from that video, some frets are a lot more worn than others...

Say what you will about the song, but that's some nice bass tone.

So, it's a 1975 Fender Precision bass (serial number confirms this). The mod is pretty "classic", an added J pickup at the bridge. The fact that the seller has mixed up his model information and "thinks" it's a deluxe with the Jazz pickup, how does that make him not know his instrument?? I've seen a lot more outragous statements about various stuff about people who supposedly "know their stuff" than this. I just don't understand what's so funny about it.

I had an old bass of mine pop up on a classified ad site here locally, and there was some misleading information (a heavily modified Precision 78) about the bass in the ad, so i contacted the seller and gave him the full breakdown of the instrument's history.

I'd gladly have paid 1100 for a 1975 Precision bass in close to original state. Especially if it's a decent player (which to me counts more than the fact that it is "original" or not).

Just about everyone was modding basses back then . I'm wondering where all those Dimarzio pickups have gone .

Everything from that era seems to be stock these days .

My old Pbass remained stock but I was under a lot of pressure at the time to route it out for a badass and a brass nut .

ha, that video totally made clicking on this thread "worth it".

Not a big fan of the P/J setup my 1st bass was a P Lyte. I know, unfair comparison. Now if only the Toxic Avenger played bass....
