Single coil Tele bass vs. neck pup on Jazz
I have become obsessed with Ron Wood's bass playing on the early Jeff Beck, Rod Stewart, and Faces projects.
As I understand it, most of these tracks were played on a Tele bass.
I've tried two Tele basses years ago and the baseball neck does not fit my hand well.
I have not had much luck getting close to this sound with the neck pup only with a J bass and assume the pickup design (and possibly placement) are the reasons.
Does anyone make a single coil Tele bass copy with a J neck (1 1/2" nut)? Looking for a cheaper instrument to try before dropping major coin.
Try a Squier Classic Vibe 50s Precision bass.
I think placement has just as much do with tone as much as pickup design. That said, would you consider installing a Tele pickup on your Jazz? If there is not any clearance issues you could have all 3 pickups. Just a thought.
I love the tone he gets on " Gasoline Alley " LP, especially, " You're My Girl ".
Ron Wood played sn early Tele single coil bass. My 69 sounds just like those recordings. You can get it with a single coil pbass-look for a used mij.
Looks like I found the answer to my own post
I assume this will accept a tele pup without major work
1 1 /2" nut; lightweight
Might need a setup; cheap!
I have had 3 SX's, how does the Douglas compare?
