Wink Single string bridges on ebay - what could go wrong?

Sign in to disble this ad
Is there a real reason to not use something like this off of ebay in a build? If there were middle ground, I would go for it, but it's either these or pay $80 total for the Hipshot version. I'm not usually about the money, but it makes my stomach turn a little to think that something so small and mass-produced could cost so much per part. There's much less metal involved than a full size bridge, and each single string bridge is identical except for two saddle-width variations - I just don't see the reason for a cost to be so high.

I know the the parts I mentioned are from China, but honestly, so are most production basses and everything in them. Would anyone ever notice the difference between these and the Hipshot ones? What about these mass produced Chinese bridges is inferior to USA mass produced bridges? Is there even a difference at all?

Hell, at that price, I'd get those. I've wasted more money on cigarettes. It they don't work, I'd take 'em off.

I'd say go for it, and if they fail, buy the real thing... and tell us so we do or don't do what you did...

I would, but the only problem is that I have to drill to mount these things. I'm assuming the spacing between the mounting holes and string-through holes are different from the hipshot version. Ohwell, I might just have to find a cheap craigslist bass to test these out on for a few months and post my findings...

Well, I have a cheap chinese fretless bass with these things on it, and I can't get it in tune. Ever. The mounting screws are actually in the way of the saddles, and a couple of those little allen bolts are broken.
YMMV, yours may turn out te be great.

Thanks for the comment! Would you mind expanding on what the pros and cons were?

Thanks, good to know - I might just grab these to see if I can somehow tool them into working. Durability obviously seems like a problem though, huh?

I used them on one of my Kramer Aluminum necks. They worked great, but the mounting screws were total garbage.
