Which six string?

Sign in to disble this ad
So im really a double bassist, but im getting an electric so i can be as versatile as possible. Im no virtuoso of the electric, but I am much more well versed of those so called "bass players. "

So know that youve heard my story, I can ask my question. Im looking into a six string for around $500 if possible. Something that can get a very natural sound, i play alot of jazz lines, melodies, chords, and also indie rock.

I have been looking into the ESP Something (haha i dont remember the rest) and the ibanez SR506. Any thoughts? Im open to any suggestions, 5 strings, 4 strings, hollow body, 363782826 strings, whatever the talk bass gurus think.

Thanks,
Adam

The ESP LTD B-206SM, plus case or better then average gigbag would run you around $500 or little more. I think the ESP ltds do low B better then the comprable priced Ibanes SR's.

I would try schecter if I were you. Amazing basses. I own a schecter stilletto studio 6 and I absolutely love it. I play in a bossa band btw. This one is above your budget, but they ofer cheaper yet great alternatives

First, congrats on the choice to play the electric as well. I can't play the double bass although I would like to, but to me the six-string electric is the greatest instrument there is

Personally, I find the Ibanez soundgears a bit too narrow spaced, but that's completely subjective. You should really try them out. I think Ibanez has quite good value. their BTB series is the other option, it has wider string spacing and those are good instruments too. I can't comment on the ESP or schecter- Then, I think MTD Kingston basses are more than 500 new but maybe you can find some of them used.
Those basses receive quite much praise here, I think, at least when people mod the pickups and electronics.

My personal favourite from serial producted basses are the older Japanese Yamaha TRB's but the newer ones are quite good also. I think you could find them quite reasonably priced second hand.

I got a LTD B206SM at Sam Ash last year new for $350. The tone knob was missing so they discounted it. Awesome bass!!!

You can find Made In America Peavey Cirrus 6-strings used, in the $600 - 800 range, if you shop around.

If you get a Cirrus 6, you will never have a desire to upgrade to a better bass. You might want something different, but it won't be because it's "better".
