Six string bass

What are some examples of bands or musicians who use six string basses? I mostly listen to rock and metal, so if you know of any in those genre's that'd mostly be what I'm looking for.

check out Cynic and Aghora, great Six String wizardry (and good songs too, for that matter). They have in common the collaboration of Sean Malone, who plays also the six string on Gordian Knot albums (although he mostly plays the Chapman Stick on those).

Cheers!

I believe the bassist in Symphony X uses a 6. I'm suprised no one has mentioned Les Claypool yet. I know he doesn't always use a 6 but does use them. There is also the guy from Los Lonely Boys, not exactly the style of music the op is looking for but a very good player in his own right.

Haha, you were thinking of the wrong insect. But watching that guy play is what pushed me to start playing 6 strings. He's very entertaining and writes some good stuff.

Both Ty and John are both great! Really enjoy both's work but I love Ty's personality!

I was thinking to myself, "Man, I went and saw Papa Roach in concert a few years ago and homeskillet was playing what looked like either a P or a J, I guess he stepped it up a notch!" lol, makes much more sense now! I'm loving some of these groups, keep it coming!

Quick list of those not already mentioned and off the top of my head...

People famous for their use of 6-strings:
John Patitucci
Steve Bailey
Alain Caron
Les Claypool
Anthony Wellington
Gerald Veasley
Anthony Jackson

Some other musicians better known for 7+ string ERBs (but I'm sure they could function just fine with a '6' in their hands):
Bill Dickens
Jean Baudin
Yves Carbonne

Edit: I just noticed that you're mainly interested in rock and metal. But I think these players will be just as inspiring for you to check out.

Jeroen Paul Thesseling (ex-bassist for Obscura) plays a fretless 6-string Thumb.

Jeroen Paul Thesseling actually has a 7-string Thumb.

Bill is an incredible musician.

On a slight sidenote, I knew the Yamaha RBXJM2 that Myung played was a signature model, but I had no idea he had an extra bridge pickup. Mind = blown.

Also, Sami Hinkka of Ensiferum. If that doesn't demonstrate, try to find the studio version.

I think the bassist from Porcupine Tree uses a 6. I could be wrong though.
I prefer 5 string myself.
