Six string bass with close string spacing

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi!

What six string models have the closest string spacings (at bridge)? Except Fender VI type basses, and preferably < $2,500.

I apologize in advance if this question has been answered in older threads (looked and didn't find this particular topic).

Many thanks!

Good lord! My carvin LB76 is so tight spaced! I wish 19mm was standard on sixes.

Well, the Gerald Veasley Ibanez has 14mm spacing, but it sells for 2X more than you're looking to spend so....

A lot of lower-priced imports have 16.5mm spacing, which is probably as tight as you'll find without going custom or buying a different bridge. The Ibanez SR six-strings are that width I believe.

Ibanez SR5006E, SR506, & SR706 have closer spacing, while their BTB 6's do not. The Prestige SR5006E is a very nice bass but $3K.

Older Alembic (especially Spoiler) six strings tend to have extremely tight spacing:

carvin's 6 strings always have had very nice and tight string spacing. the older ones were a bit tighter - i had a '92 LB76 that sounded fantastic, and played beautifully, with very tight spacing..

The closest string spacing will be from Ibanez or Carvin. I LOVE my Carvin LB76 (made in the 92-94 era). It's closest, but I have no problem with pick, finger or slap techniques.

You can find a new SR5006e for less than 2K VERY easily. If not, send me a PM and I'll point you somewhere.

Warwick, Ibanez, Schecter, Carvin, ESP, Spector (may be wrong on that one), Dean, etc. should all have the same 16.5mm spacing. That's about as narrow as you're going to get on a production 6-string.

Really, the better question would be which basses in that price range don't have tight spacing.

Pretty sure those are actually one of the wider spacings available on a 6, are they not?

My Spector USA NS-JH6 has a 16.5mm spacing i believe. It isnt to tight or too wide. i really think its just right. atleast for me. im pretty small (5'5"), so my hands work well with this bass.

My 1988 Modulus Graphite Quantum-6 SPX has something like ~12mm spacing. Stupid tight. They're probably not very common, but if you do find one for sale it should go for less than $2,500 easily.
