Six string bass question!

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been searching the web a couple of days for some decent cheep six strings, and i'm looking for something around 1000 dollars.
I already have a sweet Warwick Corvette std. but it only has four strings. I use it alot for slapping and basically all other genres where i just need the range it can provide, but lately i've become interested in the more extreme prog and metal **** where i could use a six or at least five string.

Bottom line; do you guys have any decent first-time six-strings at around 1000 dollars?
I've been looking at the ESP LTD B-206 and the Ibanez SR 506.

I'm glad for any tips

A tip from me would be: Shop used. If you don't like it, flip it for what you payed.

Warwick 6er's are HOT! Those basses look like they're just made to be 6 strings. Something about a 4 string wick doesnt quite look right IMO.

+1 to that. You might check CL, here or Ebay for used Carvin 6s. Nice sounding basses that you can get for well under $1000.
Of course if you just want to experiment go to www.rondomusic.com and pick up a cheap Chinese bass first. My students have brought in Brice basses and they're not bad and can be set up well.
For a long-term commitment I'd look at Carvin, Ibanez, ESP or Warwick in the used market.

Feel exactly the same about Wicks, and some others too - only 4 strings just doesn't seem....right - has to be at least 5

Yamaha, Peavey, Spector, Warwick, EBMM (although I'm not a fan of the 34" scale), Schecter

If you only have a 2-band EQ, swap it out for an Aguilar OBP-3 and enjoy the amazingly versatile bass you now have.

What in the world are you talking about!? NO bass should have fewer than 6 strings....

What string spacing do you want?

I'm comfortable with both thin and wide spacing, but more the wider.
