The OP uses a bit of duct tape and metal to repair his bass, and some of you guys are giving him the 3rd degree. Meanwhile, there's a guy who stripped off the finish on his P-bass, revealing a remarkably ugly mis-matched multiple-piece body, which he a natural finish to, and all the posters in that thread gave him kudos.
The worry over the OP cutting himself is a valid concern, though.

You definitely have the right idea. Basses are meant for playing, not for collecting dust.
Love the band btw |

The worry over the OP cutting himself is a valid concern, though. | It's my fault really. People come on this site to see huge pedal boards and giant walls of amps?
I like the term "trench bass" alot though. Kudos. |

A little tongue in cheek, but I think you know what I mean.

SO - the seller had just epoxied the end of the pickguard to the bass! Ugly, but it worked. It wasn't fractured into small pieces like yours, tho.
I have also gone direct out like that in the past. However, when the pickups are not loaded by the pot it really changes the sound. Did you find this??

A little tongue in cheek, but I think you know what I mean. | Sort of I guess. Listen, I could give a rats ass what other peoples basses look like as long as they are happy with it and it sounds good. Does the OP's bass function like it should? Yeah, probably. Is my cup of tea? Heck no. Does his "fix" make him happy? I hope so, I'd just suggest a tetanus shot for when he opens up his hand or finger on the jagged edge of the mess. OP, make sure you get a foto of that and add it to the thread when that does happen.
What I take issue with on this while thread is the term "fix". My definition which mirrors Webster's is 180 degrees off from the OP's definition of the word "fix". Just for the record I would have been much more comfortable with the term, "alteration".

When jumping around is more important than the music, this is appropriate as well. Making it look as ****ty as possible for image is any different how? Poser comes to mind.

This is the best bass for metal!
All jokes aside though, I dig the "this was broken so i did this and now nothing is broken, it just works different" attitude. My old band wasnt so much thrashing and chaotic insanity like yours was, but more synchronized headbanging and dipping, But I know if we went that hard my bass would shortly end up looking like that and I wouldn't give a crap.
To some, mojo is a yellowing cracking finish with worn frets and a polished neck from all the runs your hand has made up and down it. To others, mojo is battle scars from going hard and losing it and generally not caring what happens to your bass. My instruments dont always fit into the former category. Sometimes I show them love by getting them out and knocking them around a bit. I'm not disrespecting my gear, and neither is OP. We're just showing them love as we see fit
