Something doesnt seem right : '73 Jazz

http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewi...id=26491980570

Mostly the logo in the pic of the head stock, seems way off and ive seen pretty consistant logo placement on fender stuff.

Curious there is no mention of the extra string tree. Looks like the stock tree was moved to the low strings and the newer one was installed in the original spot.
As for the logo, I have no idea.

Not sure if it's just the angle of photo, but the rear corner of the bridge looks like it hangs over the the edge of the bass? Seems a little odd.

Well, it's darn close.

What's going on with the pick guard around the split pickups?

I'm willing to bet it's legit & has just had a TON of mods done.
The bridge kind of makes sense, given the dimensions of a BA.

Yea, but isn't 1.2k kinda steep for something with all those mods?

It looks like he added pieces of guard around the split pickup where the j pickup was . The headstock is still confusing me

The heasdstock logo is fine, those were still decals applied by human hand back then, so there are inconsistancies in placement. But who cares about the headstock logo when the rest of every single part of this bass has been modified:

The original frets were ground flat to make it fretless.
The body cut for P pickups, and by the looks of oversized plugged holes in the modded pickguard, it probably had at least another type of pickup in there before.
The electronics need no mentioning, pretty obvious.
The badass is fine, yes the corner lays right on the curve.

Yes it's a legit old very-modded Fender Jazz, but this ain't no investment bass. To me the mods are attrocious and too costly for any restoration.

You wouldn't want a fretless with block inlays anyway. You will get a different tone when the string touches a block inlay compared to when it is touching the wood part of the fretboard. That is why you typically do not see inlays on fretless basses.

Don't most inlaid fretless basses have some sort of epoxy coating on top of the fretboard to raise & level it out? This would nullify the difference

Plus I can't imagine too many instances of putting your finger over the block, except in the case of slides, in which case it would only be a momentary, and hardly noticeable difference.

It looks to me like it had a larger pickup where the P is now, or someone cut it for a inverted P pickup and then realised they'd f***ed up :P

Don't forget the selecter switch and miss-matched knobs in the volume volume tone section.

yeah, but he says it's "all original" except for...

...pretty much the wood, the keys and the paint

Yeah, no way you'd want to sound like this:

Bireli Lagrene fretless bass solo
