The guy handing them out bailed out, sold all his SR's and bought a couple Spector's.

If you might have a number, He stopped about 2 or 3 pages back.

While you are contemplating the potential options in another bass I would suggest trying some different strings. I have found that they can change the sound of a bass quite a bit and may give you what you want with a smaller investment. Just a thought....

nothing spectacular, but I got this SR200 a couple weeks ago for a Hundo with the hard case and 2 packs of D'addario strings. I thought it was a great deal, plays nice , the guy who owned it before me took decent care of it , changed the strings just before i bought it and has the action set to where I like it, no tweaking needed.

I'm looking for a mix between my first two basses, the thump and heaviness of my SR 300DX, and the brightness and clarity of my 505. I realize that it's likely impossible to get both from the same instrument, so realistically I'm wanting thump with definition. The woods are the same, so the body will provide the thump, and I'm hoping the electronics can give a little definition. Think that's possible? I'm sure if my bass was as quiet as the other two, I'd be perfectly satisfied. But I figure if I am replacing something that old, I might not be able to get the stock part easily so I might as well upgrade. Thoughts?
I don't think you can rely on the body to provide the thump. It's a huge argument around here about if the body contributes to tone, but most will at least agree that even if it does there are many other factors that contribute more. Pickups and strings are high on the list and even fingerboard material seems to be a bigger factor in the blindfold tests I've heard.

Having said all of that, you can still find what you want (and I hope you do!). It just takes lots of searching. And don't forget that every part of the system contributes. I couldn't believe how much definition I got in the low end when I switched to the Audiokineses Thunderchild speaker cabinet. The point being that you may need to adjust elsewhere in your rig to get all the things you want.

I've got a very flexible GK rig, so I don't think that'll be a problem. I've also heard the arguments you're talking about, but I've tried an Ibanez with similar wood and Bartolini electronics and it's pretty much exactly what I want sound-wise. I'm sure I'll keep looking for a while since I'm so anal retentive about things like that, but I'm pretty sure that's what I want. I'm heading to a shop for more research later, so I'll keep you posted. Thanks for your input!

Just got back from demoing an Ibby at the store, and gotta say, that's exactly the sound I wanted. They had my exact rig there and everything, so it was like I was playing at home for real. Really tempted to get those Bartolinis now...especially the NTMB preamp.

Yes it could seem like that was the case.

Nevermind the number - we are proud numberless members!

I have no idea how that all works. I would think that someone could take over if they wanted to do it. Perhaps contact the guy who was giving out the numbers and ask him.

Ok. So I just got a n SR 756 this week. Im having a hard time dailing in a good fat tone. Ive tried everything eq wise. Is it the elixir strings? Seems I get really high pitched ring/ overtone even on low notes. Any ideas?

To my ears Elixir's have the opposite effect - a very slight mellowing.
What amp and cab are you running?
What kind of music do you do? What are your tone goals?

I love the 750 series, but I don't think of it as fat in the old school sense. It's ultra clean, lots of sustain, very modern sounding. There's just a touch of mellowness to it, but not super warm like a Fender. It is quite capable of sounding full and deep - depends on what you mean by fat. To me fat implies old school or maybe EB0 type sound, but you may be thinking differently. If you can give us more of a description of your tone goals, maybe we can help. (Apologies if you've mentioned some of this before, I'm not re-reading the entire thread).

I just realized that I sold my Soundgear bass (jewel blue) and left my information engraved inside the rear control cover. If you happen upon it, kindly remove it for me and don't steal my identity.
