i like those a lot. I am thinkin about puttin new pickups on it.
I have rotosound 77 flatwounds on there right now and i love them | I put the Roto flatwounds on my '82 Ibanez Blazer and found them to have too much tension on them or something-- I like the feeling of give that I can dig into on Roto 66's. I still have them around-- maybe they'd feel better on the narrower neck of the SR than the big P-Bass neck of the Blazer.
I don't know what pickups were in the 800, but they sound just phenomenal, and are different from the Nordies in a big way. The 1200e is very clear and Nordstrandish, but the pups that the PO put into that Korean '90s 1200 are that big fat slightly bell tone with a high rolloff.

The BTB's are very flat, while the SR's are quite curved.
I am not comfortable on the BTB-- too thin and flat like a shredder guitar. The SR is small but rounded both in the fingerboard and in the shape of the neck, which is very comfortable for me, even with big hands.

btb-meaty neck, big body, 35" scale
Scale length would do it for me. I like the BTB's but the extra scale length makes the strings feel more taut. A lot of people like that though.
Both are very nice basses. |

This is my third SR. I think she'll be staying with me for a lifetime. This and my Gibson LP Studio I think are the two things I could never let go of.
But good lord, are these new ovangkol tops ever pretty! |

But IME BTBs feel cumbersome compared to SRs. Depends on your personal preferences, I guess...

Used to have a Soundgear 506 in black with gold hardware, and now my current Ibanez 6 is the Ashula. 4 parts active fretted with 2 parts passive fretless on an ash body, and Ibanez's classic super thin neck profile. This thing was just too weird to pass up.
