Chris.

Just get better! That's all any of us want.
For you and your wife and children.

I have often said (as has Sam) that the key to my recovery (in my mind and heart) was having such a positive outlet for me to pour my frustration when it seemed I was starting to let the doubt or fear take over.

In the past 4 years I've been so fortunate and lucky to have met so many amazing people. So many amazingly kind and caring people... and the bass guitar and Spector in particular... have been the common ground on which we stand.

I'm proud that the rally cry to send you messages of hope and encouragement have been answered by so many people from every corner of the world, from every type of music background.

And more come in every day.

So keep checking that page. It's only going to grow.

www.spectorcentral.com/chrisloe.html isn't going to do anything but get bigger.

So we're going to hold your feet to the fire. Fight! Fight and win! KNOW IT. YOU WILL WIN.

Enjoy your day with your new bass and let the strength you get from knowing that you are loved and appreciated become part of your armor.

Well everyone, we did it! We came together as a
community and managed to pull together almost $1800 to
get Chris Loe (chrisloe) his dream bass and a ton of
other gifts. Over 70 people from the Spector Club gave
and then there were people from TalkBass who aren’t even
part of our little family that heard about our cause and
decided to pitch in as well. Patrick rallied together a
great group of Spector artists to donate and Stuart
himself signed a poster and an extra electronics plate
especially for Chris. Then we also got him t-shirts,
hats, straps, strings, wrist bands… if it’s swag and it
says Spector on it, Chris has got it. We even had Best
Bass Gear and Southeast Guitar Repair pitch in just
because they believed in what we were doing and wanted
to be a part of it.

We blew so many people away by what we’ve done. When
they found out about it, they wanted to be a part of
something that demonstrated what the healing power of
music can do, particularly when it comes from a Spector,
and especially when it comes from a community of
bassists who saw one of their brothers hurting and
refused to stand idly by. People pitched in and we came
together and did something for Chris and his family in the
most positive and supportive way imaginable. Not only did
he get the beautiful custom white finished Ian Hill
(generously donated by Jeff at ½ the cost of what he
paid for it), but a ton of swag, a gorgeous web page
dedicated to him that will continue to grow and be
updated by Patrick (JPSBassist), but also Dave (peledog)
made a hard copy of it so that Chris will be able to take
it with him wherever he goes. And then just to top it all
off, we managed to give him $500 in cash for him and his
family to use towards expenses while they go through
the next 3-6 months of medical care in Minnesota.

We did not do this to show off. We did this to show
our love and support for a brother in need and because
of that, it is important to walk a little taller, sit a little
straighter and be proud of what we accomplished
together as a community and family of bass players.

Almost all of us came together over the mutual passion
we feel for Spector instruments. Whatever that elusive
thing is that captures our musical imagination and
touches our deepest appreciation for aesthetics and
beauty, Spectors have it. And through that connection
we all share, we decided to make a difference for one of
our family members. Chris will never forget this, and
neither will any of us. It’s important that we recognize
what we were able to do as a community and know that
we really put some good into the world and helped a
brother feel inspired and brave and loved and cared for. In
having done this, we can stand proud.

Below, you will read the letter that Chris saw
when he first opened the case to the bass we got for
him. At the end of it is a list of people who helped make
it all happen. Believe it or not, that list is still growing
as some people continue to hear about what we’ve done
and want to be a part of it. We will continue to collect
donations, add to the web page, and even produce future
versions of the photo collage book as time passes by and
Chris begins to heal. For now, we’d like to take a
moment and enjoy what we’ve done for Chris and celebrate
the wonderful people that make up our community of
musicians, bassists and lovers of Spector instruments.
We managed to harness the magic and beauty of those
beautiful creations and turn it into something that will
inspire Chris and his family while letting them know that
we stand with them and, much like Chris himself, we will
not quit and we will not give in.

*********************************

Dear Chris,

We all got together and decided that one of the ways we
could help you get through this second battle with
leukemia was to arm you accordingly. And what would be
the best weapon? Well, we decided it would be a new,
white Spector. The first dream bass you ever owned and
finally now have once again, but even better than the NS-
2A you had over 2 decades ago.

This is a new, custom finished Ian Hill that was initially
owned by Jeff (Jeffplaysbass), and he donated it (and the
amazing Reunion Blues soft case and detuner) to our
cause for almost half of what he paid for it. We then
asked everyone in the Spector club to help us pay for
the bass, the EMG BQC preamp, a pro setup and
installation, extra strings, etc., etc. Everything we wanted
to get for you is right here, and if we could have done
more, please know that we would have, but we think
there’s enough here to put a smile on your face and the
faces of your family for a good long while. The cash is
what was left after covering the bass and some
essentials; please use it to cover whatever expenses you
need taken care of. All of this is not only from your
family in the Spector Club, but even some folks outside
of it like certain Spector artists and others who heard
about our endeavor and wanted to join us in making this
happen for you and your family. Now that everyone
knows where you are, there’s no telling what may show
up next… Everyone’s contribution made it possible to send
you some amazing Spector healing power, and also some
extra goodies as you can see. We did all of this because
it was important for us to remind you that we are behind
you every step of the way. You and your family are not
alone as you go through this; though it may feel like
that at times, we are there in spirit and only a phone call
or email away. A lot of us would willingly take this
illness from you and put it on ourselves if we could.
But since we can’t, we are going to stand right beside you
until the fight is through and you stand victorious,
healthy, alive, and surrounded by the people who love and
care for you.

We can’t wait for you to get through this, heal up, and
get back to your home and your life. We’ve got faith
that you can do this, Chris. All of us have come
together to say that you are our brother in music, you’re
an important part of our community and we care deeply
for you.

Please enjoy all of this and every moment of happiness it
can bring you because you deserve it. And never forget
that every single one of us is sending his or her positive
energy, prayers and thoughts your way. We are with you,
no matter what.

With all due sincerity and love,

Ta daaa!!

So the very first response I get to the Craigslist postings for "bass player needed" comes from the drummer I played with all through high school (my first band) for almost 5 years.

He's in a bar/club band with a 140ish song library but they also do original stuff, have recently finished their EP and are getting ready to shoot a video later this month for the first single. And guess who they just fired? Yep. the bass player. And guess who he called first? Me.

Timing and karma can be some supremely cool sh!t sometimes, you know?

So he'll email me an audition list, I emailed him the EP of the last band I was in, and we'll see what happens.

Oh and I also just finished sending a similar "announcement" email out to everyone who contributed to Chris via PayPal so I could make sure I hit people who weren't on TB or FB. So I apologize if some of you are getting it for the second or third time.

Continuing donations

I was asked if I would be willing to keep accepting money for Chris and manage that donor list and the funds that come in. I am absolutely honored to do so.

I will send the money to Chris every $100 we hit. If it seems like things are going slower or faster, I will adjust the "time to send it" amount accordingly.

The process is easy. Go to PayPal and choose the "send money" option. Under that are two tabs, choose the second tab and check the "gift" option (so that way every cent goes to Chris and not PayPal fees). The account to send it to is maddernsdm@yahoo.com.

Please feel free to pass this around and poist it on the Facebook group page too. I'd do it but I've been typing for an hour and I really gotta go to the bathroom.

Hit me up with any questions or concerns.

-Steve
