Modded Legend Porn Time! I put in a pair of SGD Lutherie Neo pickups and an Audere 4 Band Preamp into this bass, and also threw on a Hipshot D-Tuner. My love for this bass is endless, and I'd love to get a blueburst Euro with the same electronics!

I also have a Black Cherry Legend 5 (with a humbucker in the bridge and a J in the neck) that I plan on doing similar mods to. Here's the family in a shot from '07:

Man, your saddles are WAY too far back. Sup with that? If nothing else you really shouldn't use silked strings, your strings aren't even touching the saddles.

That's mostly because the Legend bridge is not as flexible as the Euro or USA bridges, and I drop to Ab(F# with the Hipshot)-Db-Ab-Db-Gb, that was where the saddles had to be for the intonation to be right. The silked strings are a place setter until I get new strings...I tossed on some Rotos that were on another bass after I set it up but I intend on getting some Steel Lo-Riders to replace them.

I see! Might want to try DDT's if you're downtuning. I've never used them though.

They are good. I use them on my Euro 435LX in BEAD tuning. They lock the intonation and stay in tune amazingly long.

Ironically when he's in the recording studio he's like Trent Reznor and plays a lot of the instruments himself. But when he's on tour he takes supporting musicians.

And his bassists always play Spectors. Collin Edwin for Porcupine Tree and Neck Beggs for his solo stuff.

Here's a picture I took of Steven and PJ at NAMM this past January. He's a really, really chill guy. Very nice.

Good info....I loved that video! Very awesome playing and relaxing too. Anyone can recommend any CDs of this band for me check out?...Thanks in advance!

Very sweet Mike! How's the tone with the Audere 4 band preamp? Very nice looking Legends you have there!

Anyone currently own a Sadowsky or has anyone owned one? I would like to know what you thought of its tone compared to your Spector's tone? PM me versus thread response, because I prefer not to infringe or stir up stuff! LOL I have never owned one and would like a report of its tone compared to your Spectors.......thanks

Well lets say for Tone if Spector is 1....Sadowsky is 1(a)....very close in the Awesomeness Tone wise but seating and playing strapped thats where the Sadowsky looses me. Or I would have one hanging around. But when you put everything together Spector owns it!!...Comfort, Feel and Tone, Spectors A+ in all categories.

I have owned both Metro and NYC Sadowskys and currently own a Forte 5.

Happy problem to compare tones from these 2.

I gave Jade a fresh setup yesterday. OMG! also worked on the pup setup and I think I found the sweet spot. We played a huge house party last night, and boy o boy did Jade sound good. I just really love my basses. They are really top notch.

All this Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson talk along with the incredible live videos posted prompted me to listen to PT's "The Incident" on Rhapsody. WOW. I actually got chills a couple of times. What an amazing record!

Wilson only has two records out for the current solo project but the third is due in the spring. Luminol will be on the upcoming disc.

I would check out Grace For Drowning. It's the more recent album and has more of a band vibe than Insurgentes, but they're both great. I will say Wilson's solo stuff takes a few spins to fully absorb since it's very dense.

As far as Porcupine Tree goes, I always recommend In Absentia or Deadwing to start, but Fear of a Blank Planet and The Incident are just as good just not as immediately accessible IMO. The stuff before In Absentia is great too but can be more on the light side of things.

I can't believe it's been over three years since that came out - still seems very fresh to me. They played the whole Incident piece live at the Riviera on that tour - great show. That show is actually being released on a live DVD (no Blu-ray ) shortly.
