I would check out Grace For Drowning. It's the more recent album and has more of a band vibe than Insurgentes, but they're both great. I will say Wilson's solo stuff takes a few spins to fully absorb since it's very dense.
As far as Porcupine Tree goes, I always recommend In Absentia or Deadwing to start, but Fear of a Blank Planet and The Incident are just as good just not as immediately accessible IMO. The stuff before In Absentia is great too but can be more on the light side of things. | i got fobp and its great. mainly the because of the song "way out of here" love that song

Isn't it amazing how a few simple setup tweaks can take a bass from being good, to being outstanding?

I am still not a Tp fan and think it is not even close to the 9v. I cam get good tone from it, but next to the Kramer it still holds no flame.
I just put a coat of stain on the rebop those pictures will come soon

I noticed on one other YouTube vid of that concert that Nick was playing a Rick How much does he play the Spector through the concert I wonder?

I just put a coat of stain on the rebop those pictures will come soon | FYI
I made these clips last year.
Forte with 9V USA Circuit (NO Mixdown EQ) http://soundcloud.com/limaguy/haz-pj
Euro4LX with TonePump at 9V (EQ boost of 800HZ-1KHZ during mixdown.) http://soundcloud.com/limaguy/tp-pj
Euro4LX with TonePump at 18V (EQ boost of 800HZ-1KHZ during mixdown.) http://soundcloud.com/limaguy/tp-pj18v
You will hear that the 18V does slightly make the TonePump less Gritty. (since its really giving more headroom to the EMGs.)
They do sound similar to the 9V USA circuit since I did boost the 800HZ-1KHZ during mixdown.
The USA 9V USA is all about the signature Mid Range tone.
I am not sure if you saw my post from a few pages back.
Drop the Bass and Treble knobs all the way down on the bass with the TonePump and try to dial in the Bass-Mids-Treb from a pedal or amp head. It will get you closer to the sound you want.

I noticed on one other YouTube vid of that concert that Nick was playing a Rick How much does he play the Spector through the concert I wonder? | I haven't watched the video yet but when I saw the band live he switched between three or four instruments. I'd say he used the 4LX maybe a 1/4 of the time. The Rick wasn't out a lot. He had some pink 5-string I didn't recognize, and he used a Chapman a stick fairly often as well.
I believe Nick is committed to using all Spector on the new record - not sure if he will live but probably. |

Sam is absolutely correct... back down the bass to 20=30% (that is flat) and the treble down to 40% or less (I run it 50% + for a fairly aggressive tone)
That being said, if you have found your tone with the US 9v stay with it . Although there is a wait, it is worth it, if that is YOUR preamp. nothing wrong with that. |

I know he writes all the stuff in both, but I want to hear more from Colin, Richard and Gavin on Wilson's songs. I'm glad SW got Minneman for his band, but Gavin is my favorite drummer right now. |

that is exactly what i noticed. to me, that grit on the 9v tp does sound better than the 18v, but thats because im a metal head and like that dirty gritty tone Quote:

I fully intend on outfitting my red Legend with similar electronics.

I'm glad SW got Minneman for his band, but Gavin is my favorite drummer right now. | Collin is so in love with the new custom USA NS-4H2-MM that Stuart built him this past January.
I had the bass at my office after NAMM for photos, but out of respect I never once played it. It's a fretless with dual EMG MM pickups and a sick black cherry gloss body.
The reason I didn't want to play it was that Collin had agreed to let Stuart show it at NAMM but asked politely not to let anyone do demos on it. And I don't blame him. That's an ebony fingerboard. And those are round-wound strings. They'd eat into that board like a saw.
Since he had asked no one demo it... for me, that means no one. Including myself.
------------------------------
Nick Beggs... he's committed to Spector but does what any respectable professional bassist should, use the instrument that gives you the tone you need for the song.
Recreating a studio track live is difficult when you're talking about tracks that are so heavily modified in studio.
And I believe (it's a personal belief) that if you have fans that love your albums and come to hear you live, you should try to give them a representation of the music they love and if you can, elevate it with the live performance.
So I have no issue that Nick does what he needs to give the tone he thinks he needs to give.
And that dude is sick with the Chapman Stick. He's been into it for a long time.
