We now have 2 stores in the Richmond VA area! I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I was in the bass selection They need to stock Spector......I'm pretty sure they did a few years back?
Can anyone shed some light on why Guitar Center does not carry the Spector line?

| | The NS-2a guy | | Join Date: Sep 2011 Location: Decatur, Alabama | | There was a similar situation a couple of weeks ago. I'm gonna give you a suggestion similar to the one our friend Patrick gave then.
Sometimes when installing new strings, the entire length of the string can get a little twisted. this can cause a string to sound dead. Simply loosen the string, and hopefully it will begin to untwist. Tune it back up and see what happens.
I've had this happen with my bass a few times. I hope this helps you. Quote:

I put a set of GHS Precision Flats (Long+ scale 45-65-85-105-126) on my 2006 Spector Rebop 5DLX.
I love the tone of the EADG strings, and can finally turn up the TonePump EQ a bit without it getting harsh on the highs. BUT the B string is lacking root definition & sustain. It just feels dead & thunky. It's not floppy, though. My previous strings (DR Black Beauties) weren't like this.
The fat part of the string is just at the point where it's touching the post (just how the string sits due to length) , and it seems to be seated in the nut correctly. The bridge angle hasn't changed, and it's seated well there, too. Would a shorter B string that doesn't make contact with the post solve the issue?
Any suggestions? I'd really hate to be out cash on a set of strings just because the B isn't working out. |

Can anyone shed some light on why Guitar Center does not carry the Spector line? | The closest Spector dealer to me is in Atlanta, that is 4 hours away and they only have about 3 Spectors at a time.
I can't believe they don't have a dealer in Nashville.
Even the gas stations sell basses in "music city"........
not really....

not really.... | Yeah, the Atlanta Bass Gallery does carry them. Jim will order models at NAMM every winter, but they aren't big movers around here for some reason. I think because locally, not a whole lot of guys use them, and often the models he gets in will sit for almost a year sometimes without moving. There was a US bolt-on 6 fretless once, and instead of painted, filler, or laminate wood for lines, it used fret metal on a flame maple board . I had never seen anything like it and to date, it was the most comfortable and responsive fretless I've ever felt and the neck profile was so easy to use - worlds different than the Forte 5 I had briefly.
He also had one a that was the twin to Sam's recent red quilt NS-2. And it sat there on the rack forever. I asked Jim about it once and he said that If a good used Euro comes it, even those take a while to move sometimes. And this is a shop that doesn't let stuff sit and warp or dry out; everything gets cared for and checked. And if a customer picks one up and it isn't set up right, he (or Darren) will grab it and tweak it so you can try it.
Bit of a tangent (you Steve? no way!) but basically they just don't sell in the Atl as much as Jazz-style,, P-style and J/MM-style and various combinations of those bolt-ons do.
Jim is a tremendously good guy and will try to get stuff in if requested, but the Spectors don't sell like they do at BC and Todd's GH joint, so it's kind of not his slot.
Next time you're in the area Clearwave give me a shout !

However, apparently I am going to buy my son a guitar today............ugh. Lost another bassist........however he does like the black matte Spector Euro of mine!
Oh yes, and the bass in my avatar is going to Cali..........and my red rebop five got traded to a great musician in Cali that is getting ready to go out with one of the guitar greats!
SO maybe there is another Spector in my future..........???

I went through that with my daughter and after like a year or so, she decided she wanted to play bass instead so now there is no interest in guitar at all.

I just swapped out the tuners, put on some decent knobs, and got it set up correctly. All in, I think it set me back about $300, and it's infinitely more playable than 95% of the dreck that you find at the local GC.

Sorry, this has probably been covered in older threads but does anyone have any experience with Grover tuners? I'm looking to swap out some gold for black and strangely, they're kind of hard to come by with the mounting screw on the bottom. These look like they would work: https://grotro.com/Grover/BASS/Mini-...nes-144-Series
Or a comparable replacement tuner. I'm not that picky. I just don't want to have to drill new holes to mount them.
This if for an early Euro4, btw.

This if for an early Euro4, btw. | This is still the big mystery but as far as I understand the Schaller M4s are the replacements but I have only seen them with the screws on the side. Except for the ones that come on the Euro series which are screws down. But this seems to be a OEM version used in the Czech shop.
If you decide to go with Gotoh's instead of the schallers I think you will need to route the holes bigger based on this diagram.
