So actually, the electric bass is a guitar. It's an electric bass guitar.
The guitar (the six string variant you don't play) can be called a "standard guitar".
Sorry dude! Just getting you back for the whole Haz thing. LOL! | Anthony Jackson agrees with you, which is one of the reasons he insists his 6 string is a "Contra-Bass Guitar".
And he's very adamant about the "guitar" part of the designation.
But, as far as I'm concerned, if Anthony Jackson says it's a Cucumber.....it's a Cucumber!

That's short for cucumber... Like Tuke but cuke.

| | Uber-Techno-Geek-Bass-Lover Webmaster - Photographer - Graphic Designer - SPECTOR® | | Join Date: Feb 2010 Location: Santa Barbara | | | Just some random stuff One thing about ordering a USA neck-thru Spector is that if you ever take the bridge off your bass you'll find your name under it in ink... or sometimes pencil (mine is in ink on the Pearl and Dream, but in pencil under my NS-4). It probably has to do with darker stain finishes vs. lighter or natural.
It's a convenient way to prove a bass is yours in the unfortunate event that it is stolen (I have really nice alarm system and a retired park ranger as a next-door neighbor who has agreed to shoot first and ask questions later should he see strange people running out of my house with guitars in their hands... LOL).
I don't worry about that so much as I know that sometimes people worry about having an instrument stolen during a show.
It's really sad to think that people would steal a bass from someone else.
But I guess some people are just souless and don't care as long as they get what they want. I'm all for Arabic Law where thievery is concerned. Cut their hand off.

Before I did the nut polish trick with the fingernail buffing/polishing boards.
And after. There were fine imperfections in the finish before you can see in the photo above. But not anymore.

Change that to read "custom-ordering" & you are correct - if you buy off the shelf as I did, the name of the store that ordered the bass, i.e. Bass Central, is written under the bridge.
I've always put my name on a piece of paper & hidden it inside the control cavity of every bass I've owned for the past 25 years, ever since "the mysteriously vanishing fireglo Ric fiasco" of 1987....

I use the tiny cotton buffing wheel on my Dremel moto-tool with a drop of Brasso, and this method is fast, easy and effective. Just be sure to mask off the area around the nut first to protect the finish from the wheel & buffing compound.

I'll see what they put on the box when mine comes in, I'll call it that. (if I don't die from old age first)
This is gonna seem weird:
You know a term that bothers me? "Bass Guitar". And its everywhere! Everytime I see it, I think it's wrong. I don't play "Bass Guitar", I play "Electric Bass". "Bass guitar" implies an instrument that derived from the guitar. "Electric bass" is an electrified bass (double bass or standup bass). In rock in roll, the double bass was replaced by the electric bass in the 1950's (thanks Leo). I don't play the guitar-at all, never wanted to. It has 6 strings, two of them are out-of-wack and I don't know why or what to do with them. I can play a 6 string bass though. Also, I can do stuff on a double bass, not good enough to get by on a gig, but give me a couple of months.
I started playing piano about the same time I started bass. I relate bass lines to the left hand on a piano. In my head, I don't relate the bass to the guitar at all.
Notice this thing is called "bassist" <------------
Not "bass guitarist" | This is a better discussion...I like Electric Bass myself too... ELECTRIC BASS!

Honestly... no worries about it being a Warwick. Basses and bassists... it's about music. Not about which company did this or that.
But I do totally respect and appreciate you taking this conversation outside because it's not about Spector. Kudos and thank you.
Sincerely, I'd feel the same if the conversation turned to Fender or Wal or any other manufacturer's basses.
This is the Spector club after all. | And don't forget the Jay D bass...People here seem to want to sell there soul for those basses

I'm sorry my avatar brought that brand in here no matter how briefly. I like to switch my avatar up for variety sake with equipment I own so it's that bass' turn! Lol
By Andy were you meaning Andy Irvine? Wasn't he a Spector artist at one point?
I'll change it again for you today Jeff, with something interesting

And yes, Andy was a Spector artist but made the switch to the W and many felt betrayed by that and dislike him.
Nice choice of an Avatar.
